MG ZS, any good?

We have a development!! Got a phone call just before dinner and he has come down to £1700. He checked out the cost of the cambelt change and said i had a good point. Additionally, it's been advertised since before Christmas and i am the only one to go and see it. As it's his wife's car and she already has her brand new Fiesta he want's to see it go as it's taking up space. Going to go and have another look tomorrow but will most likley buy it now. :D

After all that i did'nt buy it. The driving postition was just too cramped for me. No matter how i adjusted the seat the steering wheel was still against my legs. While it was ok for a test drive i just could'nt live with that for any length of time. Back to the drawing board then.

Lovely engine to drive, complete git to work on.

Still have nightmares about doing all 3 cambelts.

Ahhh still have nightmares about doing it now :D

Anyway, for that money...I can't see why anyone would go for anything but a 180. Unless running costs are an issue, its an improvement in every single way over the others.

True its a lovely v6 when on song definetly a under appreciated engine.

Asides from a awful steering lock i consider the zs 180 to be the best handling FF I have driven.

Indeed, theres not a single 5 second job on those cars. However, great to drive and if you've got the patients, great to own. I'd have another in a heartbeat if it was a viable option right now :)

Don't tell me you dropped the lump out to change the cambelt??

Not just the cambelt, it's one of quite a few things we did.

And the engine bay is flipping tight in these, it's far easier to remove the engine, much easier to get to. Obviously it's doable, but I really don't know how, and would love to see it done with the engine in. But we weren't following a manual either.

You can come and give me a hand next Saturday to do one!!

In by ten and should be driving back to Cornwall by 3pm all being well. Hopefully I'll be able to get the dipstick tube out of the sump.........

I take it part of what you do is maintain these cars? Car garage or similar? :)

Hehe yes in the end I was getting frustrated and broke the bloody thing off and repaired it afterwards. :)

Having owned a 1.8 ZS myself I loved mine, never had any issues with it mechanically either in 18months.
