2005 LAND ROVER Freelander 1.8 E Station Wagon

Well they're some chavtastic wheels. As above, not a good indicator of it being looked after, although it probably means it's never been off-tarmac!

You will get much more detailed and knowledge on one of the dedicated Land Rover forums (such as LR4x4).

I'd avoid, they're cheap for a reason.

The K series engine in them is good in some respects, but when overloaded when cold (in the Freelander and Rover 75 for example) thermal shock occurs as different parts of the engine warm up at different speeds. This problem of course is present in all applications, however being under stress from the heavy vehicle exacerbates the problem.

Also, it's simply not the right vehicle for a weedy 1.8.

I used to own one of these and even though they are not the right wheels on there they dont look the right size either? Advert says 18" alloys and I think the ones I had were 17" original fitment and yet there wasnt that big a gap in the arches. Odd looking indeed!

The freelander mk2's are much better. They're more reliable than the mk1's and they look nicer in my opinion (especially in the camel trophy yellow or 'sandglow')!

I bought my better-half an '05 Freelander last year for £5,200 with 30k on the clock and it's been fantastic.
It's only negative would be the 1.8 petrol engine, which is a bit gutless. The TD4 is deffo the one to go for, but it commands more £££.
It's ever so capable on the snow earlier last year and this winter. I leave my BMW on the drive and wave bye-bye to other struggling RWD's as I fly past!

The 1.8 k is a great light engine for kit cars and hatchbacks, but is entirely wasted in a heavy freelander. The heavy load causes cracked liners and other issues.

We do have several customers who have removed the propshaft and have repeatedly stated how much better it makes them to drive.

Crap pointless wheels, wrong engine, awful interior, is that base model as well? you could sleep in the space left in the engine bay. It looks like it's been jetwashed to death then covered in back to black, in a month when it's all washed off I bet it'll look tired and bland.

Avoid its simply the wrong engine for the car, buy the derv version.

+1 TD4 is a much better option for a gaylander, I mean freelander :D

lol I've seen that as a bodge to 'fix' a broken viscous coupling. But in all seriousness, if you have to remove the part time 4x4 ability in order to make the car more 'drivable' then you might as well buy a mondeo or some eurobox thing and forget the idea of a landrover in any variant.
