Hi,

I know a fair few of these posts get made so apologies. Will be getting a bodyshop to quote during the week, but I need a quick ballpark estimate on how much its likely to cost to put right this bumper scuff.

Car is a MG ZS in met blue. Any ideas ?

Depends, if it's just a mobile scuff repair under £100, if it's done properly they will take the bumper and that blue strip off, then respray the whole thing, that would be about £290 I reckon.

I had a similar scuff and get a few quotes and that's roughly what I was quoted.

Not sure about rear bumper but I had my front bumper done on my Mg zr for £170 (trophy yellow) It was a very good job indeed though, and to me, seemed very cheap.
I don't think it should cost all that much for a complete rear bumper respray but then again I could be wrong.

Let us know how it goes :)

Cheers for the advice guys, will pop into some bodywork places this week.

Left it in a hotel car park and went down in the morning to find the damage, long story short I found the guy who did it and he's apologised and agreed to get it sorted.

Seems a nice guy, so don't wanna have his pants down for an old rover, but at the same time I don't want it looking even more scruffy by having a poor job done.

Hi Guys, could do with some advice.

I got a quote of £240 from a local bodyshop to spray the bumper, the guy originally accepted blame and wanted to avoid going through his insurnace.

Perhaps rather predictably having seen how much the quote was, he's now gone underground refusing to reply to email's or answer the phone :(

I have his address, registration etc, but not the name of his insurance co.

I assume if I was get my insurance company to persue him it would probably come to nothing and I would lose my no claims or something ?

Get the police involved - if you have his reg. that's the only way to get the details as far as I know.

They'll get in touch with him door to door, and refer the details on to you.

This is why people are often very reluctant to make arrangements outside of insurance.

People massively underestimate the cost of repairs in many cases. For my car a front wing is €479 for the OE panel alone before you even think about paint and labour. That "little scuff" can often result in a huge quote.

Your right, I should have just gone straight for his insurance info, at the time I thought it would just be a £100 mr dent man type job.

I'll give his local police station a call tommorow, I was under the impression they wouldn't want to know and just tell me to contact my insurance company.

I had a perfect paint match on a 1 metre long keying (through to the primer) across the rear wheel arch for £160.

Your damage does not look THAT bad and I would seriously be shopping around after a £240 quote.
