Warranty question

I bought a laptop from another e-tailor.

1st 08/10/2009 @ £399.99, it was RMA`d and found faulty under warranty. A replacement was sent (different laptop).

2nd 18/03/2010 @ £388.99 Again this was faulty under warranty. Again a new replacement (different laptop).

I paid to upgrade to a different laptop

3rd 09/07/2010 @ £438.53 This was seemed to have a test hard drive in it, so was replaced with the 4th.

4th 13/07/2010 @ £438.53 Again this was faulty under warranty. Again a new replacement (different laptop).

5th 21/01/2011 @ £393.47 (£45.06 cheaper) this laptop should have come with some free stuff.

But when I rang asking where the free stuff was I was told. That due to the original order being back in Oct 09. I should only have had a proportional refund. So I will not be getting any free stuff. (fingers crossed I still get my refund).

My question is surely I the warranty should be 1 year from the new product.

You're asking why people who can't sell goods of a merchantable quality are dicking around over freebies?

Seriously, count yourself lucky you (currently) have a working laptop...

If you use a product for 6 months and then it turns faulty and you want a refund, they dont have to give you the full refund but more likely the case of giving you a refund based on how much use you have had out of it.

Also, im somewhat shocked you have had 5 defective laptops, even HP's are not that bad!

Thats why we went for a HP. But they said it was faulty.

If they were warranty replacements rather than refunds/new purchases then afaik the warranty is until the later of the original warranty date or 90 days from the replacement

Ahh, then you'd be falling back on the "fit for purpose" stuff covered by the Sale of Goods Act. Things should last a "reasonable" amount of time.

There's no set definition of "reasonable" though, £20 toaster packs up after 13 months, tough, it was cheap tat, go and buy another one. £700 tv dies after 13 months, that's not good, you'd expect a £700 telly to last longer, etc.

Hmm hp's are actually that bad

Something like a 25% failure rate on some study thing done last year if i remember right.

They were warranty replacements of different laptops. As the one we RMA`d were no longer stocked.

So I will have no warrenty for the new laptop.

Cant say for definite you would need to contact the supplier but industry standard practice is the latter of original warranty date or 90 days from replacement

Are you trying to say that because the replacement laptop isn't the same as the one you initially bought, the warranty should be renewed? If so, I agree.

Yes, new machine new warranty.

I can not help it the wife has had no luck with them. Fingers crossed this one does not break.

I wish. lol

The first 2 had screen problems, 3rd I think had the wrong hard drive installed. 4th was over heating (90c+ just on the net).
