spec me a car for £4k please.

omg what happened to the thread? All the sensible advice has been deleted and we are talking classic/weekend show cars.

Never mind. For 4k you could buy a blinding mini. Remove the engine and get an MG metro lump. Get the head skimmed and ported. For road I would use a Kent 276 cam. Unless you want to cut the bilkhead keep the 1 3/4in SU Carb rather than than a webber side draft. A Howley inlet is great as it is water heated and stops icing in winter. Use an LCB manifold an exhaust of your choice (RC40's are great).

Either a 10 or 13 row oil cooler is great and make sure you fit a central oil pick up for hard cornering. It is also worth having the crankshaft cross drilled and wedge as well as a centre main strap to avoid breakage. Remember if you do replace the engine for an MG Metro lump and box that the Diff may cause problems on wheels other than 13inch.

Do all this and your mini might perform as good as a standard Punto Sporting. I use to build custom Min's and they are great fun. But I would never use one for day to day use.

Guys, the Mini-Fiesta debate isn't really needed in this thread is it? If you feel it's needed, by all means start a new thread rather than derail this one.

If you read further back I agreed to stop arguing, after this Blackhawk47 STILL continued to trash talk about my car. Blackhawk47 introduced my car into the argument with no prompting at all. Something has to be done or I'm going to completely lose faith in the moderation of these forums.. I'm sure I'm not along in thinking this. Why should I have to bite my tongue when someone repeatedly talks crap about my car for no good reason and without relevance to this thread.

I know you guys are sometimes go on about how I've 'changed' in recently months. Be honest with me, was I ever quite as bad as Blackhawk has been these past couple of days?

No, just a bit biased and blinkered at times :p You have changed from 'oh no not again' to the voice of reason. Most of the time :p

A bit of rust where water was sitting between the door seal and the sill, you couldn't even see it unless you peeled back the rubber, also one corner of my door shut was bubbling up so I addressed that too. So again, no visible exterior rust. So you are stupid and my door isn't rusty and never was.

All I said is that a one litre Mini is slow, Minis like to rust and that they are poor value for money :(

To coin a phrase.... 'why are we not talking about 4k cars' :p

Forget it, I will only post here in here if wanted. Its been made quite clear by a mod that I am in wrong always and upset some people (the same people? - i don't know?).

So do me a favour. Just add me to the ignore list.

That car looks hilarious.

You can see nice dimples where the old arches have been removed, and rust. Yet he only mentions a small dent. Colour aint too great either really, and I am not too sure that 1275GT front end really suits the car :p

EDIT: oh and just to let you guys know...you have alienated one of my favourite forum members on motors. I am not going to name names but its quite obvious after all of you giving so called 'advice'. Gone for good now...his account is effectively brown bread. :( :( :( :(

Shame someone else's isn't eh. ;)

Honestly...I can't say you were half as bad, no. :)

I don't know about deleted but the OP started the Mini suggestion himself early on with a 995cc one being mentioned and it stemmed from there.

Christ can't bloody win can I?! You complain if there's too much moderation and then complain that something needs to be done! What do you people want?!

Stop victimising yourself you silly bee, nobody said you're always in the wrong, just think before you post.

And for the record, nothing has been deleted from this thread at all :)

What do you people want?!

For something to be done when people go mental for days on end spamming massive capital letter text everywhere and replying to people solely with youtube videos etc. etc. etc. and not be told that the real problem with motors is caused by the people attempting to post sensible advice for people, just because some people don't like the advice they get.

Direct insults are seemingly allowed now too, which is nice.

Here here.

Over moderation: pruning threads because they are slightly off topic, banning people for honest mistakes (quoting images).

Under moderation: when a number of people are wondering why someone is allowed to continue to trash talk (blackhawk), make personal threats and insults (shep towards fox in the last thread - I'd love to see you in the pub etc) and continually talk rubbish and then when challenged, go into mental breakdown. It's clear blackhawk needs to cool off, there's one way to do that but I'm not a mod and the decision is with the mods.

I clearly explained that a 1l engine Mini is slow, they rust and they are poor VFM. Is this not considered advice or do I have to be attacked by a child for having the audacity to mention things that are generally accepted as fact?

Blackhawk, you really need to start thinking when you post whether or not your posts are going to contribute to the thread or just wind people up.

Others, if people post items that just rile you , email me or one of the mods so we can stick our noses in. I personally tend to leave motors to do it's thing, but then threads like this run away with themselves, and deleting posts or closing threads ruins the thread and the development of decent discussions which I don't like doing (as you know). It's times like this, where a little nudge (from me or another motors mod) in the right direction would help.

I'm not trying to exclude anyone from posting, but whilst I find the development of threads interesting, let's at least keep it civil, or if an interesting topic has evolved from a thread, start a new one. :) You won't get banned for starting a new thread which spurs on from another.

However, whilst I'm not going to stipulate that we absolutely stick to the OP, I expect all of you to use a modicum of sense and realise that a thread is becoming unwieldy and ask for some moderation. Sure, some moderation will happen, but the joy of motors is other than blatant rule breaks all of you keep within the rules and moderate yourselves.

Can I please ask from all of you just to remember what you want from the forums and try and all contribute sensibly - if an RTM doesn't get actioned, (please don't shout at me I'm not always available online!) email me with your concerns (I always reply).

Personal attacks are not on, if people get heated, take a step back, take a breath and answer civilly. I don't want to delete posts or suspend people because of a mad half hour, however I expect you lot to interact with one another as you would in person - with respect, in spite of not necessarily agreeing to one another's views.

Can you/we all please put a bit more effort back into Motors?

Thanks guys.

I trust my reply has answered some of the questions? :)

Kenai is right - people post asking for advice and then lose it when that's what they get and they don't like the answer.

If you've already made up your mind about the answer to a question, does it really need to be asked anymore?

Freefaller...as a man of motors you do get the idea of how it all works in here, other mods don't seem to...just hope your post sinks in to the others as I'm sure they are and can be decent mods and allow motors to be decent again. :)

Oh...and as all this is in this thread...can I have my infraction removed for my comment in another thread today? All I said was basically what has been said by others within this very thread and even the Dons are saying along the lines of what I said.

I think an increasing trend we've seen here lately is that people feel that because its motors they must have an opinion on everything even if they don't know anything about the subject in hand or they are unable to interpret the requirements of the thread. I guess they see some of us posting a lot and assume they have to as well.

Please just think about whether you actually know what you are on about first - and if you post and it's clear you didnt, don't fight to the death, step back gracefully :)

To an extent yes, but sometimes you see moderators posting amongst this sort of stuff and doing nothing - the thread a few weeks back with Biohazard calling every one under the sun moron, dick, idiot, pedo etc. and not a thing was said to him, despite moderators posting in the thread.

It doesn't really motivate you to RTM such behaviour when it appears to be tolerated anyway.
