Friend is selling his 2004 Golf GTI

New new GTIs are very dull. So refined I feel the old hothatch are becoming a little tame even though they have all the power 250+ they just feel so heavy and lifeless.

But the one in the OP, £5k for an 2004 Golf? Ouch thats a lot of money.

I Love Golfs with a Passion but being old my Love comes from the old ones, 10.5 seconds makes me & baby Jesus cry. :(

To be fair the mk3 and mk4 were an embarrassment to the GTI name. Still, they are a good source of bits for the earlier ones ;)

My mind stops at Mk2's :p It's also stuck in Aqua Blue as well 2 door like my last one.
I am eyeing up this lads mk2 & wouldn't be surprised at all if i ended up in another as they take 25 years off me as soon as i get in one.

I think he's probably referring to the fact they have a reputation for being rather numb, boring and uninvolving to drive.

The mk4 GTI was still quite a 'soft' car, GTI was still very much a trim level. The mk5 onwards GTI was/is more focussed, more of a drivers car. It's not just me saying this, it's pretty much common knowledge

150 bhp from a 1.8 20v Turbo is really an embarrasment

mk3/4 golfs are rubbish unless they have a 6 cylinder engine up front :)

It's not like 150bhp is as much as it can manage though is it? That's just the level they felt was sensible to give it. That was upped to 180 later when a few other cars had appeared sporting a bit more power (such as the ST170).

As i'm sure you well know, on the later 1.8Ts a 200bhp+ remap is a relatively simple affair.

Mine was £2600 for a 51 plate a year ago. Is the 54 plate really worth that much more?
