AMD Slashes Prices of Radeon HD 6800 and HD 6900 Series Products

AMD finalized its recalibrated product pricing of Radeon HD 6800 and Radeon HD 6900 series products in the wake of NVIDIA's launch of the GeForce GTX 560 Ti later today. NVIDIA's new GPU is expected to revive the green giant's competitiveness at a key sub-$300 price-point, which could destabilize AMD's SKUs in the price-proximity. Without many options left, AMD is setting the following new prices (EUR and USD):

* Radeon HD 6870 1 GB: 189.99€, $219
* Radeon HD 6950 1 GB: 225.00€, $259
* Radeon HD 6950 2 GB: 239.99€, $269~289

The prices should be in effect very soon. Prices apart, AMD will also release a new driver that will bring about considerable performance improvements to all Radeon HD 6000 series GPUs.

How does techpowerup know that a new driver will be available that 'will' offer a considerable performance increase?

Also.. it doesn't really seem like a price drop to me? Just seem's like a return to the 'release' prices?

€14 difference... shame, was hoping the 1GB models would be a bit cheaper than that.

There are a few retailers with a Saphire 1GB 6950 with custom cooling for £195 plus delivery. Not bad.

Yes, I wouldn't worry about it. It's a good card, and the price is still good. HD6950 may still go down, but that's the name of the game. I paid over £200 for a HD5850, that seems not so long ago.

Always thought the 6870 and the 6950 was bit to close price wise.

I only paid £195 inc delivery for my 2Gb card, custom cooling at most is worth an extra £20 so its not that good really.

i can also see a CF 6950 flash to 6970, especially with the 2560 resolution i now have, anandtech says it beats the 580 SLI somethimes

I think that AMD will fix the flashing of the 6950s by the time the 1gb models come out.

I am surprised that the HD6950 1GB is still doing quite well against a GTX560TI 1GB with a 1GHZ core.
