Nespresso Question (Citiz/Citiz & Milk)

Hi Rasta.
Firstly I must apologies for being selfish and not posting my experiences, as a fellow Citiz owner :D

I just this moment tested this issue by running the Citiz 4 times by pressing Lungo and 4 times espresso.

I did not lift the lever until the last time, which I could see deposited a fair amount of water into the drip base when I looked inside (you can see the capsule holder retracting back and dumping the water into the drip tray through the capsule hole).

The drip tray was probably a millimeter (if that) high of water.

I think it primarily depends on whether you lift the lever or not. The best test is to probably fill your water tank up to the brim and just keep pressing the espresso button without lifting the lever at all and see how much water gets deposited.
If there is little to no water, then I think you have nothing to worry about.
Also dont forget condensation will eventually form and when it cools will most likely also add to the drip tray. Just a thought :)

Let us know how you get on. When I get a spare moment I might actually do the same test!

I am wondering if the lungo tends to drop more water (upon lifting the lever) than the espresso. Would be interesting to know which button you've been using in the specified tests!

Thanks.

The tests i ran were using the espresso button, but it seems to make no difference to the amount of water if you use lungo either. Just seems to be a bit of a glitch with the machines which i never noticed until you pointed it out!:p

Just got one of these as a birthday present from my wife.

When I run the pre-heat by pressing either button a small amount of water collects in the drip base and a small amount when you lift the lever.

Not a big problem as long as you know about it, I'm going to empty it each time I use the machine.

Besides this it makes excellent coffee, much better than the Dolce Gusto that it has replaced.

Thank you for all of your replies :)

It seems like everybody is experiencing the same common behaviour and so I think it's safe to say the machine is not faulty.

To summarise the findings so far (seems everybody’s results pointed to the same thing).

Coffee:
Very little (if any) water collected in the drip base. Irrespective of espresso/lungo.

Pre-heat:
Little water collected (possibly a bit more than coffee but still minimal) during the actual warm water production. A notable amount of water collected in the drip base upon lifting the lever. The amount seems to be generally irrespective of espresso/lungo and the number of times the corresponding button has been pressed (e.g., the discharge is related to lifting the lever not pressing the dispensing button).

Whilst happy to see the machine is no different to others I still think it seems to be poor design; I do not think it would be possible to do 9 - 11 coffees with one pre-heat per coffee without the drip base filling, even though the capsule container has sufficient space. This analysis, of course, assumes that the lever is lifted once between each pre-heat and coffee (in order to insert a coffee capsule).

Either way, as stated by marin, it really is not a huge problem so long as you are aware of it... Something I was not when I first noticed the overflow (which was at the time quite substantial having not been aware of the build up under the machine).

Thanks again for everybody’s help in getting to the bottom of this.

On another note, has anyone tried the Kazaar blend? Supposed to be quite nice.
Trying to grab a few off ebay but the seller is not responding to my "make an offer".

To hijack this thread a bit, did anyone get a Nespresso machine in the run up to christmas that came with a cashback voucher worth between £30-50 depending on your machine?

Was just wondering if anyone has successfully got their rebate yet? I sent mine off on the 31st December using their online form, but still no word back and nothing has appeared on my nespresso account.

I've had my £40 credit back and just received my glass sets and capsules yesterday!

Arrpegio is nice :D

(Sorry :p) Give Nespresso club a call, Im sure they will help!

I got 10 (IIRC) sleeves when they first came out. Have to say I was actually a bit disappointed with it in comparison to others - though don't get me wrong, it's still nice. I suppose it depends on what your favourites are normally. I think it went down well overall.

What I was annoyed about is the fact that they never even told me about their flavoured blends (see here) that they bring out over Christmas. By the time someone mentioned it to me, they weren't on the website (if they ever were). Haven't I paid enough for you to let me know when you bring out limited editions, Nespresso?

I emailed them a few days back, but just got a generic "it takes up to 21 days to register" its been 26 now :( Just out of interest how do they give you the money off? Is it a code or does it just discount your order or something?

Are you subscribed to their newletter thing? Ive only had my machine since christmas but i assume that would be something they would announce.

I've gone if it actually, jump between ristretto and cappricio.

I might have to order another "welcome pack" i didnt make a note of the ones i preferred... I do remember Capriccio being lovely but thats all i can remember. :(

Edit - Hmm 250 capsule selection + free discovery box for £70.50, do i dare?

I've just started drinking it so... :)

I've been trying to get hold of some Kazaar (the limited edition one).

Supposedly is "12" on the coffee scale!

Id quite like to try it as well, they have done a brilliant job of making the stronger ones very tasty without being bitter like most strong espressos ive tried. I assume its an ebay job to get some?

There is one UK seller but for some reason he is not responding to my emails, or made any counter offer to my initial 'make an offer'.

There are some dutch sellers I have noticed so its still accessible!

I think I read somewhere that the patent for the capsules expires in 2012 so other companies will be able to make them for the Nespresso machines. Although I expect Nestle are working hard to make this not happen.

Tesco (or ASDA I forger) have already expressed an interest in making their own. Was in a newsletter someone wrote into ages ago.
