comfortable salary

combined wages the wife and I, she earns more than me :) is around 88k and we live comfortably "well off"

We rent a nice house and go on a couple of holidays a year. I like material things she's not so bothered

We do well enough.

I would have though 35K is a good wage to be "comfortable" with. Depends where you live and your outgoings.

Do most of us agree that roughing it up for a little bit in economy class on a plane is still living comfortably? After all, you are probably flying to somewhere nice still.

I'd have to earn a serious amount of money (i.e. 150k+) to justify flying business class. I'd rather have the extra money to enjoy life for longer than be a few hours on a plane in less comfortable conditions.
 
I flew to Australia then California the following year both in economy. I certainly felt the ability to do this meant I was comfortable, but I guess not as I didn't fly Business.
 
If i was to earn £2k a month (after tax) i would be happy.

But then again i dont have any rent to pay, i only have to pay some bills ( Phone, Internet, Eleccy)
The Other bills the other half pays.

Both students so no counsil Tax..

if i had 2k a month i could afford Anything i wanted... One could wish

if i was earning 100k Plus a year i wouldnt change my ways i would simply save the extra 60+

I heard today of flights you can get on the A380 Airbus where you get to stay in a suite with a shower. A shower on a plane.

The flights cost $18,000.

Anything less than that and you're a complete pleb.

You mean you went on 2 big holidays in 2 years at opposite ends of the world and you didn't fly business? Clearly you're poor and scraping the barrel. I feel sorry for you :( It must be tough living so close to the line...
 
£100k I'd say, but then I'm greedy and wouldn't want to stop at that.

The other half will probably hit that in some years time, and already flies first class everywhere she goes. Give me ten years and I'll catch up. :p

free time is worth more than money, heavy tax does not inspire me to work more. i dont need three cars etc to feel comfortable. just need to eat, sleep, love and exist.
 
I could imagine being pretty damn comfortable on £35k.

The people who are saying they would need £150k and that it's all down to your own personal idea of what is comfortable have misunderstood the thread i think. But then, each to their own.

Exactly.

Once I hit £40k I'll find it very hard to care about working any harder or progressing any further, as I'll have all I need and plenty more besides.
 
at the end of the day, both people who earns 150k and 20k can eat the same quality of fish, chicken, drinks and so on.

£30k a year is the minimum I would say for year 2011.
