Go from e4300 to q6600 with a 4870X2?

Well Q6600 ordered, so the e4300 will be going on the MM, and I'll soon be playing with clocks on my X48. Wish me luck! :-) (Although minor difference.. I now have a 5850 rather than a 4870X2 lol - Which is faster it seems at least with an e4300).

Yeah should be good, even in cases where the extra cores aren't being used the Q6600 should be faster clock-for-clock due to increased cache size (I think).

I upgraded a E4300 @ 3.15ghz to a i5-750 @ 4.1ghz and it makes a fair difference in modern games.

You will notice the diffrence between the Q6600 And E4300.

Can you tell me the settings you are using on your current E4300.

What settings would you like to know?

I'm using 5:4 ratio I believe, and FSB is currently at 355 I believe (so chip is @ 3200Mhz. I can boot higher on the chip, but it isn't stable).. running about 1.4volts.

I made the same upgrade last year, from an e6320 @ 3.2 to a q6600 @ 3.2 and had such a vast improvement in BFBC2 which depends so heavily on your CPU. Now with a GTX 460 I have all settings on high in DX10.

Just playing the single player on BFBC2, it feels like an improvement could be made. (1920*1200, most settings on high, except shadows on medium, no AA and 8x AF). Feels a bit 'jerky' to me at present. Just moving 'forward' every few steps it seemed to jerk on occasion like it's loading something up. Wierd.

Quick question about memory ratio's.

1:1 means FSB and Memory Mhz are matched (so 400Mhz on the FSB is 400Mhz on the Memory).

So does a 5:4 ratio means that if the FSB is at 400Mhz the memory is at 500Mhz? (just trying to make sure I've got it right in my head as I've only got DDR 800, but is will do about 450Mhz at least, but haven't pushed it further yet).

OK.. so I probably won't be keeping the card forever but..

e4300 @ 3Ghz
q6600 @ 3Ghz

Would you bother changing for gaming purposes? (as I'm concerned the e4300 isn't enough given that I see very little utilisation of the 4870X2 in games like BFBC2. (Crysis = 100% utilisation though).

Note: I would try an q9450 or q9550 but really outside of my finances at the moment.

my old build q6600 @ 3.6 ghz was bottleneck for 1x gtx 470 overclocked (820/1640/2000) in bfbc2. sorry but 4870x2 and q6600 @ 3 ghz not good idea. you are not going to use full power of gpu.

looks q9450 or q9550 better option.

Have you checked your hard disk activity BTW??

lol... thanks chaps. I'm aware of those issues, just thought something else was going on. TBH I was just happy playing the game as I've been running an x700pro for a little while. I'll look into it a bit more later :-)
