I just got a tub of the chocolate stuff yesterday [Cyclone] and tried it with water as it says on the side. It was ok, bearable. This morning I tried it with milk and my God it was amazing. Really really nice!

What is so bad about having it with milk? A lot of people seem to think it's a bad idea. I will keep to the water though, as it seems to be the consensus.

Additionally, would skimmed milk be ok?

its more about the kcals generally, unless you are a competition stage trainer.
skimmed would be pointless, the milk tastes good because it has something to it :p

hope you didnt pay through the nose for the maximuscle stuff!

I find "USN's Pure Protein IGF-1" to be the best by far, i get the 2.3KG tub for 53 pound and per serving it has 40grams of protein, 2g of carbs and 2g of fat, it includes all vitamins and minerals and all amino acids *BCAA's etc...*
It usually lasts me about 3-4 weeks and would highly recommend it.

Water allegedly has a faster absorbtion rate (perhaps someone can verify this?), but I have always had whey with milk because it tastes better and you got a few more g's of protein and extra nutrients.

Protein with milk will delay the time it takes for the protein to get to the places where it matters as the stomach simply can't digest dairy quickly. So it will sort of stage the protein release which is why it's a good idea for a shake with milk before bed.

In the morning and post workout it should always be with water so your body quickly gets the protein when it needs it most.

Forgot to mention this, good call.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure, thanks. I'll do it that way.

I use water simply because it's cheaper! I go to the gym directly from work and have the powder in my shaker ready for when I've finished. If I left it in my car all day it would be all warm and 'orrid (well in Spring/Summer it would anyway...)

Nah, £32 for 1kg which included delivery. Seemed the best price.

That's a yes then :p
check myprotein.co.uk in future, try this code for a 1st order discount: MP15628 (plenty of others flying around the forum also).
You can get 5kg for not much more than what you paid for the maximuscle 1kg :)

Wow, ok. Great, thanks!

I'm not having a stab at the OP just amazed at the markup. Be better of with Phd 2.27KG for that price if you want to stick with a mainstream brand, for future reference :)

Indeed. :)

However be aware of the carb intake from milk, and lactose can cause bloating for some people
