Hello all,

I'm updating a gaming system case and also some thermal paste for an i7 CPU.

I have the paste sorted, artic silver 5 but am still thinking of the case.

The one in the title looks great value and is really the one I want, but it needs to house a Sapphire ATI 5850 graphics card, which is unfortunately quite large.

Also what would the air flow be like with this card, a soundcard, a ssd and 2x sata drives + dvd drive? the cable management basically.

I'd want the two optional 120mm fans too, with filters, I'd appreciate a recommendation for these too, obviously if the case ticks the right boxes above.

If you have or have worked with a similar set-up I'd really appreciate some feedback :)

I think a 5850 would just squeeze in there but it's far from ideal with long cards unless you remove the HDD cage. Also having tried side fans on mine I found they lowered GPU temps but messed up CPU temps so I would rather run with the stock fan arrangement. I would advise looking at the Coolermaster 690 II if you want an easier life for a similar price.

Just had a nightmare with the Scout and a 6950 but I think the 5850 is considerably smaller and should fit. The case is awesome.

From the rear of the case to the rear of the hdd cage you have 10.5" so bear that in mind when it comes to graphics cards. My Asus 5850 is 10" long but non reference cards may be longer.

The Scout is a excellent case and i rate it higher than the Lian Li PC-P50 that my main rig is in. Cable management is excellent as is the cooling. Personally i don't use the optional side fans although i have fitted a extra 120mm intake fan in the spare 5.25" bays. Eventually i will be replacing the grilled side window with a full smoked perspex one. The side panel is the only bit that can let dust in as the front grills and psu grill are all filtered. There are 4x USB, a single Esata, headphone and microphone connections on the front panel which make for excellent connectivity.

Was gonna do that with the side window myself, cut and fit a new one without the fan holes just because I've noticed annoying dust settling on the air vents. I do love the Storm Scout, it just has its niggles! If you like the styling of this case though, but want something slightly bigger the Storm Sniper would be my choice. ;)

Got the Sapphire 5850 in just about fine, had to plug power leads in before I slotted the card in though. Fits MUCH better then the previous BIG case that housed the components somehow, it was the previous version to this:

Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two (V3) Ultimate Gaming Cas

Cable management is second to none. Nice lights, with switch to turn them off if they annoy you, and the esata and 4 USB ports at the front are great.

The easiest case I've ever worked with, by far.

I used it with:PSU which was the only element that annoyed me, which was the PSU problem.

The SATA power cables are the opposite of what I needed, in other words I had to twist the power cables a bit to fit the 2 HDD's, which wasn't ideal.

The CPU cooler fitted with plenty of room, not the biggest cooler.

Bottom line:

+ Very easy to work with
+ Brilliant cable management
+ Nice touches, like fan led on/off swith
+ Pretty small, and amazing how much you can fit in it
+ Comes with very handy spares
+ Well built
+ The handles are solid and useful

I have no faults to report yet.

No idea how big some other high end graphics cards are, but the sappire 5850 I use actually had the power inputs at the end of the card not on the face of it, if the sockets were on the face, then there may have been about 2 inches spare.

10/10

Highly recommended.

Thanks again all, I don't think I'll go back to Antec again.

Glad you are getting on with you Scout, I do like mine. I am joining the group of owners who plan to replace the side window with a solid piece of perspex to get rid of the vents.

I initially left the plastic sheet on the outside to cover the vents but then removed it to see if it improved the air flow to my 470. It didn't make a difference and jsut let's dust in.

Last week I put an Enermax Twister in the lower slot and found I can only just get teh side panel on, as the corner off the fan catches the PSU unless i nudge it up a bit (thankfully it came with rubber fan mounts).

It hasn't made any significant difference ( 2 degrees off load GPU temps and sod all for the CPU) so I may try mounting it in the drive bay, as Pastymuncher has.

I wish I would have paid the extra and got an H-50, as my Fenrir is pulling heat straight off the back of the 470 (toasty :D).

Well for this build I stuck a 120mm fan on the side panel, the bottom end, it's taking warm air from the gap between the PSU and GPU, as they're blowing in to each other. The M/B temp is around 25-28 idle, but I wanted it cooler. The CPU idles at around 25-30 too. The cpu temp should reduce though once the compound settles, after around 200hours I think.

This case is purely belter I must say, £65 is a bargain. I could cross-fire it if it needs to be later, easily, put 2 other hard drives in easily and say another optical or HDD in a 5 1/4 inch bay without affecting cable management.

Lots of upgrade options.

EDIT: Just realized the fan on the side is completely pointless(The air from the PSU will overpower the output from the GPU therefore shove the air nearer to the exhaust)!

Actually I can see your point about the side vent, i'm going to cover it see if it makes a difference with this config... will report back.

The PSU fan shouldn't be interfering with anything as it should be facing downwards pulling cool air from the lower vent in the case. The side fan vents are pretty useless in general though.

Looks like I'm going to have to get creative to remove the hard-drive cage on my Scout. Can't see the 6950 fitting any other way!
Seen a few pictures of people who've done it but can't find a guide.

Edit: Meh, just needed to smash out the pop rivets.
Now have plenty of room for the 6950! :D
