Sorry to pick up a few points:
It'll get updates until its forgotten about (i.e. replaced) - My Nexus One has no Official Gingerbread ROM yet

CM7 works beautifully mind, and it still has tonnes of dev support
As for the lightness, I think that'd personal preference, personally I like a phone with a fair bit of weight behind it
Stock Android is shear win, as is the NFC (That's the main point on jealousy from my POV) McDonalds and VISA are partnering up to roll out NFC in their stores, but that's for VISA cards, not phones yet so far as I'm aware
Lol, no problem
Tbh, I would be very surprised if google didn't update the nexus one as it really wouldn't do them/android any favours at all, also apparently the reason why the nexus one hasn't got the update yet is due to them fixing problems with gingerbread on the nexus s (although I haven't seen anyone reporting any problems yet) first (can't find the site for that, but I typed something like nexus 1 and gingerbread into google news) and once those problems are fixed, they will then update the nexus 1 apparently. Plus google have confirmed that the nexus one will get the 2.3 update, although the same **** was confirmed by Samsung for a number of their mobiles, and they didn't get any updates at all

, so lets hope google aren't as bad as Samsung. Same goes to the galaxy S, samsung confirmed that it would get 2.1 officially, still no sign of it, and it should be the one of the first mobiles to get it tbh, but it won't cause Samsung handle the updates/software of it.
Yeah the weight of the mobile is personal preference, I do like the weight of the desire etc. but at the same time it's quite nice the light weight of the nexus s and GS. The weight wouldn't really be a main selling point for me

, just as long as mobiles don't feel really heavy.
I don't think it can be denied that the Nexus S is better than the Desire, but I view it like this: The Desire was one of the first 2nd gen android devices, the Nexus S being the latest and last, the 3rd gen is just arriving now, dual core processors, 1080p video recording and playback and the like. I'd wait for the Atrix personally
+ 1
The one that I am waiting for.
(I think I just managed an entire post without slagging off LG or Samsung, sweet

)
Lol, same
If the nexus S software side and updating part was done by Samsung, I would not even consider the mobile and would **** it off completely. Hate Samsung as a mobile company, they don't give a **** about their customers, release so many new mobiles like every month and abandon the older ones due to the reasons "the mobile is too old or the hardware doesn't support it" even though the mobile is only like 1-3 months old and there are mobiles that have worst hardware running the new android OS (2.2), did exactly that for the Samsung spica, and we have a fully working 2.2 ROM by CM, and an AOSP one, hardware doesn't support it, load of BS! 2.2 was developed by scratch by leshak, criminal etc. at samdroid.net. We even have CM 7 and AOSP gingerbread although, not fully working yet. And also there drivers are the ****tiest ones ever, cripple the mobile phones big time, the picas 3D/2D drivers are awful, mobile on stock ROM didn't have multi-touch enabled etc. etc.
Rant over
I just had a lengthy go on one of these, it feels very plain. I dont like the curve in it, very odd.
Side by side with my Desire HD running near identical software, the DHD seems better all round in all honesty, even though the Nexus S is nice, it just seems a pointless phone.
I love the curve part of it. At first I thought "glossy plastic again, looks so cheap and crap", but when you see all the videos of it and in person, it actually does look really quite nice IMO, but I prefer the looks/materials of the desire, nexus one and the DHD.
Well technically the DHD should be faster if you had the same software on it and not a better ROM running on your DHD as the DHD has more RAM, both processors are good (the best at the minute available), the difference in speeds shouldn't been any different really, not big enough to consider either one more than the other, although the nexus S is lightning quick, but that is due to it running gingerbread, so speeds should be the same on the desire, nexus one etc. etc. when they get a fully working gingerbread ROM.
But the one thing, which Samsung mobiles have better than any of the android mobiles at the minute, is there SAMOLED screens, IMO they are just superior to AMOLED, SLCD etc.
Personally I like the size of the DHD screen, but the quality just looks so **** IMO, the colours look washed out, wonder if that's due to the size as the desire Z screen looks much better in terms of the colours.
Also the battery life of the DHD is really poor.
I wouldn't say the nexus s is a pointless mobile, it's more the fact that it was a stupid move by google, bringing out the nexus S now when dual core, better batteries etc. mobiles are right around the corner and largely due to the fact that it isn't a big enough upgrade from the nexus one in terms of the hardware.
People would want to buy a mobile, which runs perfectly without having to do anything to it in terms of rooting and flashing custom ROMs in order to get the latest updates and better speed, battery life etc. with no bloatware, stock android, updates etc. etc.
If the DHD just had a better battery (something greater than 1500Mah) and a better quality screen it would be much better, and would be the best mobile to buy out of all the current mobiles to date for the sheer hardware/specs etc.
EDIT:
Also I am not impressed with the DHD camera considering it is 8MP (I know MP isn't everything), but the desire, nexus 1 takes photos just as good as the DHD IMO, and the GS/NS takes better photos (5MP camera) than the DHD/desire/nexus one, and the worst thing about HTC mobiles in general is there video recording in certain light/dark areas, the exposure lighting meter autofocus thing is terrible when you go from low light to bright light or vice versa, the GS/NS doesn't have that problem, the quality looks a lot better and the motion seems to be a lot smoother plus the video recording looks a lot sharper than HTCs mobiles.
EDIT 2:
Hoping that this new HTC mobile is a dual core mobile with 1080P playback, better resolution screen than the atrix and a better screen than SLCD with a good battery this time e.g. 1930 Mah
