Best game ever.

For the amount of hours it has dragged me along for... WoW :( I really enjoyed it. However, so many other games I enjoyed a lot more..

Near impossible to put my finger on one.

Either CoD4 or Super Mario 64 for me.

Out of all the games I have played, CoD4 is the one I have kept coming back to the most, even to this day.

Of course I dont have experience of many old school games.

SM64
Mario Kart DS
Deus Ex
Half Life
Half Life 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Metroid Prime Trilogy (though the first is easily the best)

I could have listed 20 or more but I've narrowed it down to the games i've spent most time on and keep coming back to. I really couldn't put one of these above the other :)

1 - Counterstrike - from Beta to Source
2 - Wipeout - all of them on PS1, PS2, PS3 & PSP
3 - Call of Duty - all of them (I know allot don't like them but I do)
4 - Trackmania - Always fun and now on the DS to :) (Would be awesome on the iPhone)
5 - Battlefield - From 1942 to Bad Company 2 Vietnam

RE1 is one of my fav games ever, so much so I went and bought another Saturn on ebay :D

MW

It is good but I think the remake on the gamecube was a lot better. The remake is definately the scariest of the bunch too, especially on hard as the zombies seem to follow you about more

I also think the older ones can feel like an absolute chore with the amount of backtracking going on. Code Veronica is the most guilty of this, it makes the game an absolute chore to play at times.

My order of preference:

RE4
RE (remake)
RE2
RE5
RE0
RE:CV
RE
RE3

5 was so disapointing :(

Boring but FFVII. It was my first RPG and set a benchmark for me in terms of what I expected on a story telling level. I am yet to find a game that has imersed me like that game did although I'm highly aware I was way more into gaming when I was 12 or whatever I was then.

For me it has to be Street Fighter 2 in all its various forms. Played it for the first time back in 92 (I think) on an arcade machine in Spelthorne Leisure Centre and for years at Daniel's Department Store in Windsor before they rebuilt as a proper shop as well as on the SNES. I still play it occasionally to this day on the Xbox. So many good times over the years with mates and then online. It had a great set of characters and it was great to see the old team back in Street Fighter 4. I don't think there will ever be a game for me that will have the same longevity (nearly 20 years) as Street Fighter 2.

Second for me would Quakeworld. I good few years spent online with this in FFA and team deathmatch in the late 90s and early 00's. A very skillful and fast paced game with a I think a good set of weapons. Quake 2 felt a little cumbersome in comparison with 3 being better but not the same experience as Quakeworld.

Mario Galaxy is probably the most fun I've ever had playing a console game. Not sure I'd say its the best console game ever. Zelda OT was really really good.

Has to be Goldeneye for me on the N64. Never put some many hours into a game as I did with that. Loved every bit about it, decent SP, amazing MP at the time and it was just a right laugh, used to play it with mates most nights!

I'd put it like this.

RE2
RE (only putting this above the remake for nostalgic purposes :D)
RE (REMAKE)
RE4
RE CV
RE3
RE0

Only played half of Resi 5. Got fed up with the co-op trash.

Having just completed it again, I can say with confidence that Resident Evil 4 is the best......

One of my top 3 games ever. I love all the RE games, when I first played RE4 I was sceptical, it was a big change but I was hooked in no time. It's my fave RE game and I agree with you, it is simply mind blowing going through it especially the first time. I spent days on it, maxed out every weapon, and then spent even longer playing the mercenaries game and cleared all that too. RE5 was good but not a patch on 4.

MGS1 has to get a mention. The Street Fighter series? Unreal Tournament on the PC took 2 years of my life away! Hard to pick just one :p
