Got a speeding ticket

It was ;) But my point is still valid. If tickets are there to stop/discourage speeding what is the point of the policeman telling you that your have a clear run thereafter so indicated that you are okay to speed?

Lol, it's not. That policeman was clearly unprofessional, but you can't base the whole purpose behind speed limits because of what some copper who's probably been working all day said.

They're main purpose is to serve as a guidance to drivers to comply with speed limits, the tickets are just the deterrent, you are the people that cause prices/points to go up, you get tickets/punished but it's still not enough, because of you, people that would otherwise never speed may lose their license, repeat offenders ruin it for everyone because if £60 + 3 points is not doing the job, they will have to up that to say £120 + 6 points for example.

isnt 40 in a 30 too much for the awareness course for they were more for 35ish

Yep i unfortunately got done at 36 in a 30, in my defence it used to be a 40 lol and is dual carriage way with no crossings anywhere along the stretch of road, not that makes a bit of difference that was back in march 2007, ive just had to renew my photo drivers license and bloody typical 2 months before they would be removed from the paper part :@

Just don't speed? It's not difficult to keep within the speed limit.

Sometimes you might creep over I guess, but just ease off a bit!

Some idiots make my blood boil. I had one guy, I was going a hair over the (on that road 40mph) speed limit, according to the GPS anyway, and this mouth breather storms up behind me flashing his lights, trying to overtake in heavy oncoming traffic on corners.

When he eventually stormed past me beeping his horn I would have given a lot to see him obliterate himself on a tree or large concrete pillar or something, alas I was denied such. :(

To those telling me its all my fault and I'm a frap driver..

I bet you can't drive or you also speed on the road.

Im not one to lecture, i used to speed all the time, i just know now its frownd upon a lot more that it used to be, infact the company I work for does a lot of work for the camera partnership and they caught my wife doing 33 in a 30 last year fortunately she did the drivers awareness course and got away with it.

Its not about being a crap driver, but ive no idea how long youve been driving for but from you last reply im guessing not that long? forgive me if im wrong its all about experience imo

You might not be a frap driver but what makes you think your better than anybody else that sticks to the limit?

Are you one of those people that fumes at people doing 30 in a 30 because YOU think it should be 40??

I hate them. Trying to get to work in the m orning and been stuck behind a 45mph driver on a road I can't overtake drives me nuts!

Same here, I now think nothing of beeping the hell out of them until they move over, its perfectly reasonable, they are driving way below the a) speed limit b) the pace every other driver expects people to drive at - during my driving lessons, oooh 11 years ago now my instructor often pointed out that driving at a pace way below or unreasonably off what the expected speed should be is dangerous in both going too fast or slow

Please don't tell me you rely on the sat-nav to tell you what the speed limit is on any given road?

Lol wut? They've been the same since they were introduced.

Problem is its a limit not a target. Its annoying getting stuck behind a slow driver but doing what you are doing could end up with you getting into quite a bit of trouble if the police witnessed it. There was one on the Tv a while back did the same thing and was prosecuted for dangerous driving and recieved quite a long ban.

Of course not, that's what road signs are for. I tend to trust the satnav's idea of how fast I'm going over the speedometer as the focus's speedo is notoriously unreliable.

Good good, just checking.

It amazes me how many people don't seem to know the speed limit of the road they are on.

I'm not so bothered by those people, it's their license and it doesn't affect me. It's the people that insist on doing 30, in a 40, down hill and then slow down to 25 through a speed camera, even though there is like 5 signs stating it's a 40 (Coldean lane in Brighton for those of you that know it).

If you got done for 40 in a 30 then your speedo was probably reading 43-45 as they're almost always over-reading by a few MPH.

Naughty!

Meh, either way, everybody speeds at some point but some people drive slowly on purpose I find, they see me coming up and then ease off the throttle so what was 33MPH is now 27.

Those people are annoying!

They probably don’t see the signs as they too busy yakking away on their phones and then it's OMFG where did that come from.

I think i'd go with the folks saying it will be just £60 + 3 points. 30%+ over the posted speed limit is a bit too high in my opinion for the speed awareness course, i've only heard of them being handed out for people around the 10% + 2mph on their first offence.

Agree some camera partnership folk can be sneaky in where they place themselves, i got done for 45 in a 40 by a camera van and was around 400yds before the posted national speed limit. They know where to generate the most revenue!

As with another couple of people on this thread, when its the police you deal with it can be a different matter, i got pulled for 97.4mph on the M62, he also had me at 117mph but got blocked by traffic. Offered me 3pts/£60 for the 97 or a day in court for the 117 which would probably get me a ban + large fine. Very nice copper, pulled out loads of photos of car wrecks on the motorway to show me the results of people crashing at high speeds, pulled out a photo of a wrecked cop car he had been driving at over 100 when he had a blow out. Taught me a lot more about not speeding than the points/fine.

There's a few who also get razzed by slow driving, it also does my nut in. You follow some driver at 40 in a national speed limit (60), they then go into a 30 zone and carry on doing 40???

How do you work that out? I know people that have been driving for 30+ years and never had points!

Me I do the speed limit which is very annoying to other drivers I know but there you go. I'm especially aware around buses and school zones.

I knew two people who died at a young age and would hate to be the cause of that grief.
