Hey OcUK,

I'm seeing threads of people buying this and that, with builds and etc, really makes me want to upgrade my current system, so I ask you, what would you do if you had my PC (And didn't want to spend masses of money)

Intel Q6600 2.4GHz
8GB DDR2 1066MHz RAM
Asus P5K Premium
Powercolour ATi Radeon 4870 1GB
1TB Spinpoint F3, 2 320GB Barracuda

It's the 1GB Model stulid.

Dr_Watson, I just game, web design and do graphics design, I find lag on Black Ops (Mainly the reason I hate it)

vanandjuanunited, I currently am on dual monitors both at 1680*1050, I have considered a overclock on it, just to try to push it up in speed. Hitting between 40C -50C on my cores atm, just browsing the web with about 20 odd programs open. GPU is at 55c currently (I do know that can hit around 80 when gaming)

clock the Q6600 and start flying, i find no lag at all on 1920x1080 all on max ( no aa tho :) )

Around 3.4-5 ghz and you will find none, if little lag.

Get a AC freezer 7 = £18 and push that CPU to 3Ghz Min

Dump the 2 x 320GB Barracuda's and Get an SSD if you have the ££££ if not get a Seagate Momentus

id personaly spend more on a cooler, ive just orderd some new parts and originaly looked at the freexer 7 rev 2

but it aparently isnt that good, not bad for its price but better to get a better one

plus you can always take new cooler with you to new pc, buy a good one now n youll still have a good one later on, unless you go to water cooling or something

Rubbish!

MY Freezer 7 pro v2 is currently cooling the x4Athlon in my sig (matx Case) Idle temp 25oC and 45oC under load (Black Ops mostly), It sits next to a radiator that's on full blast all night (Thanks to my house mate for breaking the thermostat off) And the CPU fan is never over 40% not once has the Fan gone over 50%

I've maxed 60c on my CPU currently, which isn't including gaming or anything like that. I don't see how my processor is so hot, I'm using a Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME but it might be because I've got some cheap thermal paste and maybe poorly applied?

Another issue might be how the push and pull is set up, I think there is a chance where my fan is pushing into a pull on the case, so just kinda wasting them a bit.

im not saying its bad, but there are better ones out there just ata higher price

if u can afford it get a better one, never bad dropping temps even more :D

I'm quite surprised if it's pretty poor, it wasn't that cheap when I bought it, I think I'll look into getting a better cooler, just so I can overclock. Any idea's whats really the best bang for the buck?

My Titan Fenrir keeps my 965 at 4.0ghz @ 1.37v at around 49.C full load, i have pretty decent airflow tho in my R2 with full 140mm Fractal fans .

The 49.c is with CandQ off with a 8 hour prime test.

not sure personaly but ive read good things about this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-036-ZA&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=1395

ive orderd one with my parts so if/when it gets here ill let you know

was supposed to be here before 12 today.. stil nothing :(

The above cooler is good, but at nearly £40 its hardly bang-for-buck. It also has to contend with the Titan Fenrir and the Akasa Venom at that budget, and I believe both perform better.

Admittedly neither look quite as cool :p

Was looking at the Zalman series coolers when I was speccing up my Sandybridge system, and was put off with that fact that you need to use some sort of double-sided tape to secure the backplate to the mobo. Not really the best way to secure the backplate but the cooler does get good reviews regarding it's cooling.

OP: I've just moved from a spec similar to yours to Sandybridge and would like to echo what others have said and overclock the CPU. Coupled with a decent cooler you should see a big jump in performance.
