Hi guys,

Last week, I had the oil warning light pop up on the dash of my 2.0 TDCi Mondeo while doing around 60mph. I pulled over as soon as I could, checked my oil level, it was OK. I then restarted the engine [at risk I know], the oil light was out again, so made my way home (a further 20 miles at 60mph).

I then took the car to the garage to be looked at, and from the checks they did, they couldn't find anything wrong with it, nor could they find an issue with any of the electronics including oil pressure switch. I got the oil changed and the car serviced at the same time. Since then, I did a further 60 mile commute yesterday with no light.

This morning, about 10 miles in, the light popped up again doing about 75mph. I pulled over, checked the oil and again, correct level. Had a look at the cams through the oil filler on the cam cover and they're all clean (i.e. no shavings or anything). Then restarted the engine, pressure fine again, drove further 20 miles to work.

Now from what I've found on the internet, and the fact I've done 100+ miles in the car with no new noises / issues, I think that the oil pressure switch/sensor is faulty. When you google 'Oil Pressure Light Mondeo', seems every problem points at the pressure switch. If there really was no oil pressure doing 75mph, surely my engine would be scattered across the A23! What do you think?

Get an oil pressure gauge on it so you KNOW exactly what is happening with your oil pressure, instead of guessing with a simple binary light.

Suprised the garage didn't do that for you? Or did they and that's why they say there isn't a fault with the oil pressure and that's why you now think it might be the sender at fault?

BTW - the default failure mode for 99% of oil pressure switches in "on". If it's default mode was "off", you'd never know the switch was faulty (well, not until your engine seized anyway!).
