Since the likes of youtube and google video came about there has been an increase in the number of free online documentary's and talks on subjects that you don't normally see on television.

It started mainly with google video, you could find mainstream and user created videos on some deep and interesting subjects, as well as a lot of pseudoscience and conspiracy stuff, whether right or wrong they always seemed to feed a desire for different information.

Now quality keeps getting better and the information seems to be more well researched, i wonder though if some of the content and subjects are starting to change the way people think about things, it used to be we mainly got our info from television and books but now anyone can make a full length video and spread new ideas and ways of thinking, obviously this isn't limited to videos but i think they communicate in ways text alone can't and i wonder what impact its having.

Like just recently two interesting ones were released, which is partly why im making the thread to discuss them.

Athene's Theory of Everything

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

Freedom of speech = awesome

I don't see the problem with being well informed, in fact I like knowing what's going on out there in the big wide word.

I remember watching one about the music industry called 'The Day the Music Died' which was good as it featured quite a few well respected artists... I think it is on youtube but if not it's probably on Dailymotion. :) If you're into your music then it's definitely worth a watch.

You mentioned free speech, that inevitably draws in the anti Muslim brigade.

Ooohhhh

Will have to check it out, although i remember seeing something on p2p and the music industry that might be similar?

This thread could be a good place for people to post the ones they've watched.

What is 'Athene's Theory of Everything' about? And is it worth watching or just some madman speaking rubbish?

Im not sure it can be considered a theory of everything, the first part deals with the brain and how people think, then goes into quantum physics and science about the nature of reality, its more an intro to various scientific theory as well but draws its own conclusions, its well researched but the theory is up for debate, interesting regardless and i thought the first part was good.

Do check it out, this one features well known artists like Eric Clapton, and is more about how the music industry works... I don't remember it mentioning P2P I'm afraid...

I'll see if I can find a link...

EDIT: I had the title wrong, it's actually called "Before the Music Dies"

Here's a link:

Were they singing "Bye, Bye Miss American Pie" whilst driving their Chevy to the Levy, only to discover it dry, in that film?

OT I know but the thing about the music industry is that it has got too big for its boots. As an artist you should want to perform to a wide an audience as possible. Real artists love creating music and playing it for others. I fail to see why because someone is a songwriting artist that they have an automatic right to make more money than a tv actor, playwright, dancer, theatre actor or musician for example.

This perception created by the music industry that these people who can sing/songwrite are somehow "greater" or "better" than the rest of us and therefore deserve more money is completely false.

On topic now yes i agree that some are probably good but how to cut the wheat from the chaff. At least TV does that for us to a certain extent.
