New low for this once great nation

Don't make me laugh hes only 20st, hes looking for a supposedly quick fix. Less eating more moving would bring his weight down in a healthy and controlled manner.

Really? I've become overweight over the last few years, although nothing as extreme as 20st, I jumped from about 11 stone to 14.5.

Now, I do not eat excessively, I've been eating far more healthy and in lower quantity recently as well as going for runs 3-4 evenings a week. I have lost no weight.

How do you know he doesn't need it? How do you know that he hasn't done all he can physically and mentally manage to try and lose weight?

You're managing it ok, that is good for you, and you deserve a medal, but everyone is different.

If you can put on weight, you can lose weight, its simple basic human physics, its not hard, its what the human body does, eat more calories than you body burns off in 24 hours put on weight, eat less calories than you body burns off in 24 hours lose weight.

I apologise if I appear dismissive, as I'm usually the first to criticise people that chastise the fat (or any addicts). I've had innumerable arguments about how it is not always as easy as, "Just stop eating, fatty".

However, in this instance, given the guy's attitude I'm inclined to believe the NHS are acting in his best interest in denying him the surgery. Indeed, I suspect that said surgery would still be declined if he gained weight. My viewpoint is strengthened by the fact he has gone to the media about it.

The guy is looking for a crutch, an easy way out. I sincerely hope his GP recommends some kind of counselling.

If you burn more calories than you take in then you will lose weight, if you don't then you won't. It's pretty simple. At 21 stone unless he's a midget it's not actually that big, it's not even not being able to exercise big, so I have no idea why the NHS cut off for gastric banding would be 21 st, in fact I find it hard to believe it is.

It is simple in principle but difficult in practice. Just eating less will not always be enough, you have to maintain a stable blood sugar count or your metabolism slows, you need to eat the right foods, that takes education. You need to exercise correctly and within your physical limits, again that takes education and determination.

Don't criticise it as you haven't had to experience for yourself how difficult it can be.

The chap in the OP however is a fool, and needs someone to knock some sense into him.

And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows.

It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.

That's how winning is done

Awesome quote, my favourite bit in the film by far.

I would say thats true if you are wanting to get super lean and very low body fat % but just to get down to an healthy weight is easy, exercise 4 times a week, lift weights to raise metabolism build muscle, drink plenty of water, eat lean meats and vegetables and fruit.

I put on a lot of weight (stone) and lost most of it by eating better and exercising

I can criticise, really.

Although I agree with all your points. It is, however, easy to lose 2 stone at 20 stone than 1.5 stone at 15 stone.

A stone is not a lot of weight. Now 12 stone is.

It is not easy to lose weight when you are obese...losing a few pounds when you are already slim and fit is not that hard or the same thing at all.

Easier maybe, easy no.

I've lost 7stone 8Ilbs since July, trust me it isn't easy and it is not simply a case of eating less. I wish it was, then I wouldn't have to work so hard.

Its not easy in the sense of just waking up and it falling off you, yes its hard work physically but thats the way the body works,

Also if this guy can do it anyone can albeit with gastric band.

BRITAIN'S fattest man, who once weighed 70 stone, is planning to sue the NHS for his weight gain, it was revealed today.

Paul Mason, 50, received life-saving gastric surgery in 2009 which reduced his weight to a comparitively small 37 stone but he claims he was not given the right medical advice before it became to late.

The former postman, who *consumed 20,000 calories a day, eight times as much as the average man, said he sought help from his GP after ballooning to 30 stone.

Notice the trend for blaming the NHS
