Hi,

Im looking at the corsair TX650 to replace the usual lame PSU in a Dell PC. the old PSU measures 150mm x 140mm x 86mm.

However, depending on where i look, i get different specs for the TX650. OC here says its 150x140, some sites say 150x150 (ie 5.9"x5.9") and corsair themselves have 150x150. so will the real measurements stand up please!

if you actually have one of these, i'd be grateful if you could measure for me.

however, i need a PSU roughly of this output and none others i can find with 140mm, so i might have to find a way to fit it (or another model) anyhow.

the case has little indents at 140mm, i could punch these out if i had to. this is the measurement away from the back of the box, so there's space to extend here a little.

thanks for any help or suggestions.

I'd go with the ones off Corsair site tbh
Another option would be to buy a new case too, even a £30 case from here is likely to be better than a Dell standard

just measured mine for you and it is as corsair themsevles say 150 x 150. i'm getting a 90mm height(tho the height may actually only be 86mm) measured in situ and the cables at the bottom of my case hindered an accurate height measurement

thanks for the help guys. i suspected it was 150 square, most are once they go above 600W.

i'll take a closer look at those dimples, maybe they can be punched out easily. either that or a new case. which, although interesting, i don't really want to have to do.

Be careful you don't have a Dell motherboard that requires the custom power plug. Depending on how old the system is, you may still have the custom power connector. Its only been in the last few years that theyve started cutting it out on some models.

yes indeed, dell are prone to customise things. afaik, since the p4, their mb are mostly standard. a while back i had one which didnt have the -5v wire supplied to the connector from the PSU. i figured the mb would be ok if a standard psu was connected (ie with -5v on that pin). as it happened everything was ok and i didnt blow the system.

however, im not sure i'd be quite so confident in future. :-)

the connector is the same, and they dont (afaik) change the actual wiring. i need to check to see if any are missing this time. if so, might disconnect them from the psu.

fwiw, this is one of their 8300 models. they've gone back to case screws (ie not tool-less again), which is rather odd. also the case colour has gone white in somewhat "apple"ish fashion.

the case has space for a long graphics card with a special vent for its cooling (which is nice). my plan is to upgrade the psu and put in a proper GPU and see what's what.
