So last thursday I made the single biggest mistake of all time and knocked some water into my mac whilst it was on standby

So after leaving it on my radiator for a weekend and getting a genius bar appointment on my birthday (last monday) I showed the guy my very not working mac and just said it really wasnt working they took it in on apple care, rang the store room to see if the had a logic board for my 09 mbp (which they did) and told me they'd call when its done.

Got the magic call this afternoon and its all back to its awesome self! :D Got a recept with it and it was £418.80 worth of work too!! Cant put into words how revealed I am they fixed it on the apple care

Very cool :) Don't really hear many bad things about it - just a bit pricey I guess :p But you cover yourself over things like this.

Also - your quote in your sig is a Jimmy Carr joke :p

Never had Applecare but I've always found the basic customer service to be very good, and also consistent.

For example I've had mixed results from excellent to really shoddy with companies like HP, so it's hard to recommend them based on service, whereas Apple have always given me the benefit of the doubt (in my experience anyway).

The rear cooling vents are quite low really. A chap I work with knocked a glass of red wine over and it went in the back of his 2 week old macbook pro. When they opened it up it was still swimming inside! :p

Luckily for him he was covered on his insurance. I'm guessing you didn't tell them about the water! :p

My MBP had a new battery, new charger, new keyboard, new trackpad, new keyboard, new trackpad, new topcase, new logic board (NVIDIA GPU issue).

Dread to think how much that would have cost me without AppleCare! And I got it cheap in the 'states too :P.

Why pay for extra warranty when you could just claim on the house insurance ?

Because of this :) your premiums go up when you claim too?

Best £49 that came with it (Higher Education discount either way) and the sig is the 3rd funny thing jimmy carr has ever said then.. :p (semi-pro waster clearly borrowed it...)

Don't have home insurance here in my student house as were a bit cheap... (lesson learnt for next time though)

I take it you didn't tell them you spilled water on it.

God no! waited 4 days for it to dry out and crossed my fingers that it'd all go well. To be honest iv been having a fair few crashes recently anyway which id like to attribute to some random screw that fell out the morning before it all died anyway.

Genuinely impressed again with apple care too after watching a mates 07 mbp suffer the 8600 failure and getting the whole thing rebuilt in 4 days was pretty cool too :) Well worth it all!

My mate once dropped his IPAD on the floor and it got all dirty with mud and dust. So we called up the apple care line because we didn't know how to clean it properly. I was pretty sure IPADs are not waterproof and wasn't really sure what cleaning solution to use because I didn't want to damage the touch sensitivity on the product.

So I called apple care and told them about the problem and they thought I was a massive bull****ter. So I went to my nearest ISTORE and talked to a customer advisor and they told me how to fix the problem. I think apple care are a great service as they managed to save my money and repaired my IPAD.

Hmmm...like your last thread...sounds fishy to me. ;)

I have read this and your other posts, something doesn't add up!

I always thought they had water indicators in the case somewhere?

Yeah I thought so too, when I opened it there was what I thought were 3 little indicators that were a different colour but it looks like they didnt notice or something.... Thankfully :)
