Ok so I got bit by the Sandybridge bug, and got myself an Intel DP67BG (Asthetically a really nice board) some Corasir XMS 3 Classic 1600 and a i5 2400.

From an i5 760 @ 4.2Ghz some Mushkin Blackline 1600 and an Asus P7P55D-E LX.

Sounds crazy right?

Well with the same graphics card an Asus 6850 Direct CU @ 950 core and 4800 DDR5 OC.

The i5 760 @ 4.0 would get circa 21000 points in 3dm 06 at 4.2 it would get 23400

The i5 2400 @ stock will score 21325 to me that is epic performance, all the games run just as smooth, I have less heat less voltage going on in the system, and It's all under H20 so heat was never really an issue but my rig is now silent as the MB keeps the fans @ 800rpm.

So all in all I am very pleased with my Sandy rig I don't need to OC it as it is already epic, I can goto 3.8 at no extra voltage increase , but why bother?

What ever Intel did with the latest incarnation of processors its boardering on black magic or something.

I know it won't be for every one, but I just got sick of chasing Mhz, so to have a CPU that just doesn't need overclocking is a sweet place to be.

I'm hoping this rig will last me 3 years at least instead of 6 months or 2 weeks as the last one did.

Well I might be crazy but you miss my point!

Same performance maybe, but same performance @ stock so no overclocking, which is what I got sick of.

And I'm not chasing 3dm scores I just posted these to show a subjective comparison.

I have some parts on the way and am looking forward to trying to get 4GHZ with under 1.2v and very low voltage desktop.
I don't think You really need more than 4GHZ for anything other than chasing bench marks, Just be great to have a setup that You can work hard without watching temps ;)

I think the new architecture and unlocked Multiplier (on K series) will give us something we have not really had before

Basically you got sick of changing a couple of settings, therefore forked out hundreds to buy a SB rig that is of similar performance?

Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

You just don't get it do you, there is finally a cpu on the market in Sandybridge that just flies. :o

And if you think Ocing is just a couple of settings then your mad, it takes hours of tweaking to ensure stability. A dirty OC yea thats easy. A 24/7 stable one thats another story.

But hey I am selling the Lynnfield so i'll gets me money back.

Send me a PM with an offer of what you think you'll pay

Cheers

Mind you I don't know where to pick up my PM's so help me out lol!

May be against trading rules here.
Also, I agree with the change to SandyBridge. Lower temps and really, no need for huge vcore anymore.

Not really. It takes a few minutes of tweaking settings, and then hours of leaving your computer alone whilst it runs stress-tests.

Leaving your pc alone to run stress tests isn't exactly difficult. I setup my overclock a year ago when I bought my pc, and haven't had to touch a thing since.

Well count yourself lucky it was so easy, cos getting those last Mh'z out is not so easy.

And judging by your pussy 3.9 oc on that 750 you abviously didn't spend much time getting it there....!

Go plus 4Ghz and then see how easy it is.

Feel free to insult my overclock. You're the one who just went and spent £100's because you're unable to set one yourself.

Lol it was set, and not a problem, been at it years m8 just fed up of chasing Mhz and my overview in the OP was to give people an idea of a comparison.

which would you prefer a hot running power gusling 4.2

or the same perfomance cooler and less power hungry.

Just saying no contest in my eyes.

P.S sorry for being harsh on your OC

You sound like a gamer. Getting to about 3.6-3.8GHz on a i5 750 is very easy and I could get upto there in my sleep. You wouldn't really notice much difference between a 3.8 i5 760 and a stock SB i5. Don't mention benchmarks either... nobody plays benchmarks.

You're acting like you have to tweak everyday. You tweak until your stable, and then you enjoy your rig for years. Simples. :)

And judging by your pussy 3.9 oc

How pathetic and trivial.

lol does it show that easily....?

like I said my SB is equal to my Lynny @ 4.0

I don't have to tweak at all any more .....lol

And I hope to enjoy it for a few years yes, bit of an obsession it has been I suppose you could say I'm 1 step away from an extreme OC'r don't like the idea of playing with LN2 though!
