Hi all,

I know, I know... Windows 2000...

Anyhoo, we've recently updated our AVG 9 licence to an AVG 2011 licence, and all has gone well apart from one small mishap, which is that one of our servers is still running Windows 2000, and AVG 2011 isn't natively compatible with it.

My boss thinks that he's seen something somewhere on how to install AVG 2011 to Windows 2000, but my Google-fu is failing me.

So, I need your help! To do either:

1) Install AVG 2011 on Windows 2000

2) Keep AVG 9, but allow it to accept a current licence (namely our AVG 2011 licence, as our AVG 9 licence has expired)

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

^^ This might be helpful, or not so helpful.

We would like to inform you that AVG 2011 does not support installation on Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Server operating systems.

These systems do not provide features and functionality that are necessary for proper detection and especially removal of malware. The systems are insecure and are not maintained by Microsoft anymore. Therefore we cannot guarantee sufficient protection.

If you use Microsoft Windows 2000 you have currently two options for using AVG protection:

1. Upgrade your operating system

You can buy a newer operating system to use on your computer. The list of systems where AVG 2011 can be used is available on the product pages (for example AVG Internet Security). For list of all supported operating systems see www.avg.com/special-old-os

2. Use AVG 9.0

AVG 9.0 still remains supported by AVG Technologies and can be installed on Windows 2000. If you are already using AVG 9.0 you do not need to do anything. If you want to install AVG 9.0 with you current license see FAQ 1995.

Thanks iDroid84, I've seen that. Unfortunately, the second option with viewing FAQ 1995 is less than helpful, because I think it's assuming that my AVG 9 licence is still valid - when it has been renewed as an AVG 2011 licence instead - which AVG 9 does not recognise.

It was the decision made by my boss. Obviously he didn't check to see whether it was compatible with W2kS before doing so.

All I've got to worry about now is how I might be able to resolve it.

I've just got off the phone to AVG Support (had a 01 number from a previous technical query) and the guy on the end of the phone has generated us an AVG 9 compatible licence, which has the same expiry date and seat quantity as our AVG 2011 licence, and this has been entered onto our AVG 9 installation on our server, and all is now perfectly OK.

So - option 2 of my original post has been the way it's been resolved, which as far as we're concerned here, is absolutely fine.

Good news. :)

Glad you got sorted, however:

Not just that he didn't check compatibility but why on earth use a poor AV especially for business use!
