***Official Shogun Total War 2 Thread***

don't really like RTS games, play coh for a bit and wasn't really for me. Interested in Civ 5 thou, someone likened it to playing chess but a geeked out version

It is a mix of RTS and turned based strategy. You get to decide how much of RTS fighting you do, or you could play the whole game ala civ (kind of)

In this game one doesn't exist without the other.

Civ is like a hugely expanded game of chess. Yes.

Whilst I can appreciate the look of Shogun II I do wish that they had gone back and remade Rome TW as the Japanese aspect does not interest me at all. I will miss this one unless I can muster a little more enthusiasm.

Definitely getting on this and quite amusing was just thinking I need a new chess set as my current one has 5 pieces of paper with writing to represent lost pieces :D

If its like MTW2 (and not empire) then it'll probably be my favourite game of the series as I've always had a thing for Japan and Japanese history/culture.

My two favourite films happen to be: Memoirs of a Geisha and The Last Samurai :)

Any news on whether they've fixed the A.I in this?

I gave up after Medieval TW2. Got fed up of smashing a hole in a castle wall then having my soldiers get in each others way trying to get through, the general pathfinding was just appalling.

You should watch Ran and Kagemusha.

I remember watching Ran when Shogun first came out. Two things that make it awesome:

Sashimono & Shakespeare.

Same here.

Hopefully in time they will do rome or medieval again.

I meant a month of playing in the real

So did I - It's not like you can draw out your games and make them last indefinitely. If you take your time in it, then you run out of ingame years and fail the campaign, so puzzled as to how you managed to do so - unless you play 1 battle every couple of days.

Terrific films. I'd also suggest Throne of Blood for another Kurosawa take on Shakespeare (Macbeth), as well as The Hidden Fortress. Earlier than the two you mentioned and not as big budget, but still fantastic and epic nonetheless. In fact, any of his jidai-geki films are inspiring.

I was a bit late to the Total War series so I missed Shogun. I'm probably anticipating this game more than any other in 2011.

Loved Throne of Blood but didn't think The Hidden Fortress was that good. Ran has got to be my favourite Kurosawa movie. Seven Samurai and Ikiru being tied second place faves. :D

And I reckon you should try the first Shogun. Looks horrendous but the Ninjas and Sashimonos are worth it. Trust me!

Any ideas on what the Chess edition is costing? Very tempted to get it. I looked when it was announced but it hadnt been priced yet...

ps3ud0
