my brother livs in scotland and come down every now and then, and ha no problem spending it here, i have also had some and it was fine, just let them know if it says sterling then its legal tender

if they still refuse then kick them

It's not legal tender, It is up to the retailer if they accept Scottish or Northern Irish notes.

We accept Scottish, but not Northern Irish due to problems with our cash machines not accepting them.
