Thanks work - Rubbish hire car

Personally I'd rather spend time in Schiphol than in a jam in any car.

If it's anything like my company it wont be to Schiphol, it'll be whatever the German equivalent of Coventry International Airstrip is.

You know the ones that are apparently run by Moto services and have about 2 shops, one is a Burger King and the other is closed.

GF has one and it's a good city car, I'd not want to do a massive journey in one though unless it was a 120 Sporting (suprising decent for it's power) or the Abarth.

Ideally you really should have something bigger though.

Yeah from what I can tell the only petrol engine worth having is the T-Jet. We have the 1.4 16v and it is hard work :p nothing happens until you get beyond 4k :p

Rental company is Aviva.

I flew last time and it took me 24 hours to get home, granted that was mostly due to snow but I'd still rather be driving than stuck at airports. The flights change at Amsterdam so almost 2 hours in the air plus waiting for 2 planes.

Where are you going in Germany that would require a stop off at Amsterdam? You realise that if you were delayed 24 hours by snow whe you were flying the last time it would probably have been a lot worse had you been driving? :)

you're silly, you should have just flown.

Maybe someone at his work thought the same, So ordered him a crappy rental to show him he was wrong lol.

Basing the trip on his last one (with the snow problems) is crazy.

Enjoy your drive mate :D

Just LOL at driving instead of flying.

++++++++++++++ Lots

I travel a lot for work and there is no way in HELL I'd drive anywhere in Europe, I take the train half the time in the UK as I'm fed up with sitting in traffic jams everywhere around or near London so it taking 3 hours to do 70 miles... The fact your company agreed to it I'm surprised at as the cost of hiring the car, fuel etc will normally far outstrip that of the flights and somebody who has driven 1,500 miles is not exactly going to be fresh to do a days work.

I had to drive from Brussels to Schipol once with a van full of server to be put into a data centre and it was a bloody awful journey with crap traffic, much as we get over here.

It's 940 miles in total.

Rental car arrived this morning, it's a pug 308, very basic. Not having cruise control is going to make this a drag.

It could have been a lot worse.

Only concern I have is the headlights, can't see any adjustment to switch them for Europe driving. Anyone know? Or shall I buy those stick on things from the ferry terminal?

I really enjoy driving and have done similar journeys twice before.

I got headlight converters and GB sticker from Halfrauds. Ready to roll tomorrow.

Just need to estimate my home to Dover journey time.

One thing to note is that they might not be too happy about having a GB sticker stuck on their hire car :p Better off with a magnetic jobby.

With any luck it will have the new Euro/GB numberplates. No GB sticker required.
