Has anyone booked a holiday, extremely last minute?

Ahh, gotcha :)

Yeah, that price from Glasgow is damn good. There's usually a hefty premium to fly from a regional airport. Who's it with? Continental?

EDIT: Just seen the Schipol bit so I'm assuming it's KLM/Delta?

Aye, it's Delta. I usually fly KLM (father is Platinum Elite) but never had any experience with Delta.

I'm just dreaming, as I can't *quite* afford it. I'd be too worried about running out of money when I got there. But it's fun to dream, and amazing what prices you can get by leaving it so late!

Delta is pretty good. I'm currently Skymiles Gold with them but have switched to flying United to keep my Star Alliance Gold going as well as getting the free Economy+ seats and free 1st upgrades on the domestic legs.

If I had to choose standard economy seats in either, it would be Delta every time.

Can you still get the really good deals direct from the desks at the actual Airport or have they stopped it all now? I've not heard of anyone doing this for a while, used to be a very good way of travelling dirt cheap if you were prepared to risk waiting at an airport for a long time hoping for a cancellation or latecomer.

That doesn't happen any more. If anything, they seem to generally offer the less discounted fares.

I don't fly nearly enough to carry any loyalty programme. I'm a member of Flying Blue, but at the bottom as the only time I do fly is when my old man is paying and as such he books on his account. I get access to the 'fancy' lounge at Schipol by association (though, how he does it - I'm not sure... It isn't paid, I know that much...), which is fine for me!
I'm going to remember this wee search though, as it's certainly something I'd be keen to do - just book somewhere spur of the moment and go - as it's so cheap. Unfortunately, I'm £1000 short in my bank account to make me feel comfortable to do it....

Bed time now though, shame I'll be waking up in Glasgow! :P

Well let us know when you do it. Last minute holidays can be epic. We want pics!

Sorry for taking this off topic, but what the hell is your sig about
Did DM say actually that?!
Yes! :D
He hates me to the point of sending me emails with silly threats of violence. I thought it best that everyone should know.

Booked one to Vegas with Lastminute a day or two before departing , got there and they had not made the reservations at the hotel :/

had to pay the hotel and send the invoice the lastminute who then took months to repay

Had one once where the girlfriend rung me Friday afternoon 2pm and told me to head to Gatwick right after work and to be there for 6pm. She wouldn't say anything past that and just insisted that I needed to be there for 6pm. Don't go home, go to the airport.

Got to the airport and we had a flight to Lefkada (Greece) for 8pm that night. 6 hours later when dawn began to break over the Aegean, we were skinny dipping in the warm water of a pool in a private villa she managed to bag for 3 days. Price? Just under £500 in total. It ranks in the upper echelons of the best long weekends I've ever had. I still have the stubble of the plane tickets.

i got a job in Ibiza, starting the very next day, went to travel agents and got a filght that very night, that was back in '99. Then at end of season, jumped on a ferry to Majorca for 2 weeks then flew home.

Can you get cheap flights by just turning up at the airport without booking? Then just book when you are there very last minute? This would be interesting to do. :p

For a lot of popular flights these days there will be a stand-by list so last minute deals of that kind seem to be very rare.

I remember flying back from the States several times in the early 00s and late 90s and having a row to myself to sleep on. Haven't seen that happen on a plane anywhere for a long time. :o

in 5 hours you managed to:

Pack
shower (I presume you would, with a 10 hour flight ahead of you!)
get to the airport
check in

???

Yep, I did not have to pack too much as I did quite a lot of shopping in the outlets and the airport was only a 25min drive from my place in Prague.

Work is not as issue as I run my own business so as long as I can take my phone calls its not really a problem.

My cousin lived there at the time so I had free accommodation also :)

I am planning on doing this next week.

Going to half pack for a weeks snowboarding then start looking on Thursday night. Got two other friends doing the same.

We find a really good deal, we go on Saturday. No deal, we look again the following week.

Snow is crap everywhere which is putting me off though.

Some cracking deals out there - http://www.igluski.com/val-d-isere/les-jardins-de-la-balme_p6563?holidayid=32486950

I was going to go to Paris with my girlfriend in a couple of weeks, would have worked out about £400 for the both of us for 4 days/nights, but it turns out I've lost my passport, so I don't have time to get a replacement :(
