ATI 5850 Vs Asus GeForce GTX 480

Stick with 5850 and wait for the 28nm GPUs later this year, the 5850 is more than powerful enough to play current and soon to be released titles.
 
Because it overclocked poorly.

It wasn't the best card to have obviously.

Besides some major BIOS issues it seemed to have a faulty voltage regulator and very poor memory modules. It was a mighty poor overclocker too (but that's comparing to reference designs).

Going back to my old Sapphire didn't cost me anything and two cards were obsolete at 1680x1050.
 
I can play all of my games with no problems at 1920x1200 on my clocked 5850. I don't see the point of going to a hot, noisy, power hungry 480 just because it's cheap.
