A friend asked me to build him a home theatre pc. I noticed this one and it looks pretty reasonable value. Buying all the parts seperate didn't seem to be much cheaper.

Is there a better alternative to a HTPC, perhaps a little less expensive.

Only requirements are, it's in a similar style case, and it can cope with blu-ray.

My experience with HTPC is very minimal.

try the MM and gt some second hand parts. also try the Ocuk aphrodite case

I would rather buy brand new to be honest.

A dual core AMD (250 / 255) with a 880g chipset board will play blu-ray fine.

I use the Intel E2200 with a 4560 gpu and this played fine with the Silverstone LC17.

Get an old style VHS player, rip the insides out, pack it with top spec hardware and call it "retro".

Oh wait....think we could be onto something here....

I certainly prefer the appearance of this one... it has received some good reviews too.

Could form the basis for quite a quality system, I reckon.
