Are modular power-supplies worth it

kinda depends on a few things.

1) size of case for hiding un-used cables.

2) wattage of psu, higher the wattage, the more cables/spaghetti you have.

I have a 850tx ( non modular), it was loads cheaper than the hx modular one at on 70 pounds or so I would have had to have gone with less wattage had I gone modular, cables aren't too bad for me

In a big case, not having modular cables won't matter as much.

In fact, the TX850W would be a very good choice at the £100 mark.

I paid 30 extra for modular and it is really useful. IMO it deoends on the deal. 70 or 80 extra is too much but for what i paid it is worth it as i can even change the cables according to my needs.

Yep agree here, I've got a non-modular TX750W but there's a fair bit of unused space at the bottom of my HAF 922 so I don't see it as much of an issue.

It's okay, however I don't like the fact the warranty on the Adata PSUs is quite a bit shorter than for Corsair/Antec/XFX

if you have too many cables it's very annoying, even my psu (in sig) is annoying cos even though it is modular, it has too many cables hardwired to it, three too many I think.

Personally I'd go for the CM unit over the Adata, there have only been a couple of Coolermaster PSU lines which weren't so great but I've only heard good things about the 'Silent Pro' range.

The Coolermaster Silent Pro M PSUs are meant to be good, the Gold ones are not quite so - they have not so brilliant noise and ripple.

Hardware Secrets said:
Noise and ripple was always higher than we’d like to see in a supposedly high-end product. As you can see below, with the unit delivering 800 W, noise level at +12 V was around 95 mV. While still below the maximum allowed (120 mV), we always prefer to see power supplies presenting a noise level below half of the limit.

The -12 V output failed to stay within proper range. During test one it was presenting a noise level of 108.2 mV, increasing to 120.6 mV on test two, 137.2 mV on test three, 119.2 mV on test four and 164.4 mV on test five. While this output is not as important as the others and is mainly used by some audio cards, we have to point out this flaw.

Having said that, for a 80+ Gold PSU, the CM Gold series are really cheap, and are modular - so worth a consideration, as are the non-gold versions.

Really depends on how big your case is and how many of the cables are going to go unused. IF you've got a big case and you're gonna be using most the cables anyway then it's probably not a big issue.

are modular power supplies worth it

Answers:

YES - if the case has poor airflow that needs to be less impeeded
YES - if you or the case has poor cable routing
YES - if you want a clean look inside the PC with less tangled crap to handle
YES - if you have a smaller case with a window and cant afford to ram all the spares in the 5 1/4 inch bays

NO - if you dont care about airflow
NO - if your budget will not allow it
NO - if you are perfectly capable of cable routing everything like a cable routing god

i hope this answers your question :)
