Gillette really do make the bloody best razors

I went to the big time with Gillette

The went back down Gillette Mach 3 Razor when I found a box full of them, just the same

I've been Merkur 21C for over a year now and it's much better than anything I've used before. You feel a bit like an old man at first, but it's great once you're used to it. I've also found that shaving oil isn't that great. Plenty of water seems to work fine if you have a decent blade.

I can't use gillette razors, Gives me a rash, I tried a merkur and proper soap with an alum block and havn't had a rash for a few years now,

Not sure which part of the process fixed my problem, I could stop using a merkur and use a gilette with proper soap and a brush and that might work but atm shaving costs me £10 every 6 months or so, so I will keep doing what I am doing

they are the best razors ever. simple.
Not really, there are obviously going to be some over-sensetive faces out there that will react badly to this type of razor, which makes them "A very good razor" by opinion.
The best razor ever, will be the one that suits the individual. ;)

listen...mate... i use this razor, with a shaving cream, which you use like a shaving foam, with my hands, which costs a quid. bargain. give it a go. the stuff is called ingram green.

the brush and soap bull**** is rubbish. trust me.

my last 150g pot of shaving cream lasted me almost exactly a year. for £7 and yeah, they do give you a better shave and leave your skin feeling better. i'm quite happy with my brush and cream tbh.

I use a poncey Merkur with poncey blades and a poncey badger brush. Initial outlay is expensive, but I can buy 50 stupid-sharp blades for ~£5, and a soap for ~£8. My current soap has been on the go for almost exactly a year, and still has a few months left in it. I average 2 shaves a week though (although look a bit tramp-like occasionally).

I have both a Merkur and a gillette and for speed i use the gillette and closeness the merkur, but as speed is normally of the essence for me in the morning im gonna controversially go with gillette

Everyone's saying how good these Merkur razors are but I have 2 questions..

1. How quickly does it take to shave compared to a mach 3 ?
2. These don't look as safe, how likely am I to shred my face when I'm in a hurry ?

I'm sticking with the Mach 3 until it becomes difficult to get hold of blades, just like I did with the Sensor Excel. I make the blades last ages. You can get a decent shave with any old razor, it just takes longer. Over the years this is what I've learned works best for a good shave:

A good wash leaving the face wet before brushing teeth so when the time comes to lather up the bristle is soft. Any shaving foam or even normal soap, but a really watery lather & a dripping wet blade rather than one that has been shaken off.
