Gas mark 6 did it.

The first reply mentioned updating your drivers, you then said this had been done through Windows Update. I would try going to NVidia's site directly and downloading the latest drivers from there as I don't think Windows Updates provides full, up to date drivers, I think they just provide generic, will-give-you-a-display-but-nowt-else drivers.

no it doesn't I've just done a reinstall and windows update has drivers dated June 2010

Ended up putting the Akasa cooler on it anyhow after my fan 'fix' went horribly wrong and almost melted the card :p Stays much cooler anyhow so I'm happy!

Holy thread revival batman! Sorry for the bump but I have an update, albeit a mundane one :p

Been playing with the clocks in RivaTuner and have managed to reach this so far...

Yeah I know it's an ancient card but still I'm sure a few people here are running G92 based cards. Still a very capable card for my needs and haven't seen the need to upgrade really :)

Pretty awesome with a card that was initially broken. :) I wouldn't worry about how old it is, if it suits your needs then it's good enough. Hell I've got some old junkers lying around here! :)

Wow, £15!

I've just been looking around for a single slot 9800 GT because I could use a cheapo Physx card, but this price is not what I had in mind:

That link is hardly competitive by the way, I'm sure that just looking at the price will bring more customers to OCUK instead of them lol.

I've got a GeForce 9600GSO for sale if you're interested. Could put it on MM for you today?

It has 96 shaders so not far off 9800GT (and shaders is what counts when you're looking for a PhysX card).

Is it single slot? Thats the card I've been wanting for ages, but I need a single slot one.

Did you mention this method to your mate? I would be a little peeved if my mate didn't tell me something just so he could get a bargain off me.

Yeah I did mention it. He had already bought a GTX460, although before he did I said to him about the oven trick. He didn't want to try it as he thought it was too risky. Was itching to upgrade anyhow as he uses 3D Vision.

Sorry to butt into your conversation but I have my old card which I upgraded from; an XFX 8800GS which the 9600GSO is a rebrand of I believe. Clocks well too, the RAM goes from 700 to 995 and with an aftermarket cooler I've had it up to 740MHz core :D

Did have an Akasa Vortexx Neo on it but it currently has the original single slot cooler and it's one of the later revisions with working fan speed controller.

Not sure what to do with it (As the 9800GT was an unexpected upgrade!) but if you're interested let me know.

Its ok, I dont want it, I keep forgetting I can turn off SLI and use my second card for Physx if I ever need to.

I also read on Nvidia forums that that is actually better for fast cards than running SLI with slow a Physx card. They say that if you do SLI + a Physx card, the dedicated physx card needs half the shaders of your main one to get more benefit than simply switching off SLI.

I was just browsing for the single slot 9800 GT out of curiosity and had to post the price I found for the lulz.
