Classic British plane names

Congratulations! :D

I'd add the Meteor :)

OT but my Grandad flew one, in Tiger Squadron (No. 74), as shown below:

One of the few who've successfully recovered a Meteor from a flat spin, loosing about 30,000 feet in the process! I wish I'd had the chance to fly things like that :(

Managed to land one on one engine once too, apparently that's quite an 'interesting' experience given the way the nacelles are spaced, a throwback to propellor-driven planes.

Why don't you use manufacturer names?

Vickers, de Havilland, Avro, Handley-Page, Sopwith, Westland etc.?

Or engines?

Merlin, Griffon, Pegasus, Olympus, Ghost etc.?

Others (I think) not mentioned:

Short Sunderland and Stirling
Kittyhawk (yes it's a US aircraft but this is the British name for the P40D)
Westland Whirlwind, Wyvern, Welkin
Gloster Gladiator, Javelin, Gauntlet
Armstrong-Whitworth Argosy
Bristol Beaufighter, Belvedere (helo), Brigand, Beaufort, Bolingbroke
Bolton-Paul Defiant
de Havilland Tiger Moth, Comet, Trident, Albatross

etc....

Hawker Tempest -

Why? Because it was awesome. In the words of Hubert Lange, a Luftwaffe ace and Me 262 pilot (the world's 1st operational jet-fighter): "the Messerschmitt Me 262's most dangerous opponent was the British Hawker Tempest — extremely fast at low altitudes, highly-manoeuvrable and heavily-armed."

I know it's not planes, but I'd slip in an Athena or Starbuck just to see if anyone else gets it (BSG).

There was actually a Avro Athena!

As for aircraft names:

Jet Provost
Chipmunk

Bristol Aircraft:

Supermarine:
