Egypt

Why does everyone insist on going to these border line 3rd world countries for holidays nowadays? It's all the trend now to go to India, Thailand or Tunisia or wherever, then people are shocked when something bad happens.

What's wrong with Switzerland or Italy?

I agree with Kwerk, Why go to them nasty places ?
Canary Islands, Balearic Islands etc etc are so much nicer and safer places to go.

More than 102 dead and thousands of prisoners on the loose in Egypt as 30,000 stranded Britons struggle to leave the country.

The British Government also advised against all non-essential travel to Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria and Suez as all flights from the UK to Egypt were cancelled.

I saw a photo on the Time website showing a soldier saluting the protesters. Either it's a one off incident it the army gave no real allegiance to Mubarak. The protesters are showing respect to the army and may try to get them onside. Seems the police were the main force allied to mubarak. There are also reports that the resorts have set up barricades, probably fearing protests spreading closer. The foreign office is now advisibg people leave Egypt if safe to do so.

Sharm is suprisingly isolated from the rest of Egypt.

And to be honest, I think things have settled in Tunisia now? Hardly fallen apart. So I dont think things will get to that extreme in Egypt.

And even now the Army is slowly being swayed by the Protestors plight.

But what you say is true, if the poo hits the fan, then better be out than in (no pun).
Who knows. Thomms, not sure if you got travel insurance etc? (not sure if that protects against Civil Revolutions etc so perhaps you can cancel your ticket?).

They're only objects from the past - this is people's lives we're talking about here.

And one of Egypts main income.
Destroy the past and nobody will bother with Egypt except Sharm and Hurghada.
I've been to the Cairo Museum 3 times and it's a cash cow for the country.

There's still protests going on in Tunisia. There's no faith in the new government there.

Err, those countries don't have the Cairo Museum, Giza, Memphis, Valley Of The Kings/Queens, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Abu Simbel, Dendera, Abydos, THE NILE, 1000 other interesting places and of course all year round sun.

I hope the new government lets us look under the sphinx. There's supposed to be all sorts of stuff under there.

Going to Sharm El Sheikh next week! Hope it's safe : o

Should be fine, it is a "secure" resort, only one road in, which has checkpoints, and there is no unemployment there and low crime.

I'm off to Marsa Alam Wednesday for a week and cannot invisage any issues at all.
