Due to being away at uni and not really needing one, it's been about 3 years since i last owned a car.
Well, i now have a car again :D
Here it is:

You can see from the photo that it needs a good clean and t-cut. (it's painfully obvious where i have cleaned up the bonnet and front grill/bumpers/arches)

Anyway, its a 1.8 8valve and it's the car that i have always wanted, so im very happy.
I'm off out to do a bit more t-cutting....:)

Oops, meant to ask what the best place for car stuff is. The battery is on the way out i think, so i'll need a new one. I want some jump leads to stick in the boot as well and just general car accessories like that.

doesnt even cost a lot to replace bits with the best brands and they just last and last

i had one of these a few years back with a fair bit of engine work and that was on 196k miles and was an absolute peach

Very nice, apart from the battery how is everything else?

How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

It was £900. I had to change the accelerator cable, it was very stiff and difficult to drive. But that only cost me a tenner and 20 mins of work and everything else is spot on! :)

Why wouldnt he be? He's got a car again and it probably didnt cost much. It's a stepping stone. It isnt as if he's just spent £7000 on a pile of crap is it?

Because it was a rather poorly delivered joke as the car looks awful with the badge missing! It certainly must be nice having not had one for 3 years though as I said above.

as for the battery.

the battery negative earths to the gearbox mount and the body under the battery tray.

those two main earths are a bit of a weak link

there is every chance your batt is fine.

personally (from experience of blowing an 8v ecu) is disconnect the battery. rewire the earth to the body, to the gearbox mount and then run another to one of the securing bolts for the starter

ive done this on a few mk2s, including my own, as ive seen a few with cranking issues. with the new earth they turn over perfectly.

a bad earth or no earth really car blow the ecu
