Audi R8 Spyder

Hi there

Just to add my bit on the R8.

As an A-B car I'd imagine the EVO is faster, the R8 certainly won't be any faster (V8 version).

However apart form performance and handling the R8 is a very special car, it simply looks amazing, it sounds glorious and its certainly got some good feel to it and to drive it feels rather special.

It shares its interior with other Audi's because Audi interiors are very good, so that is the reason why, the interior is ample good enough for sure.

I really like them, for me they are a gorgeous looking supercar but without the in your face appearance of say a Lambo or Ferrari, they are a bit like an Aston Martin in the respect you notice them and think wow sexy car, but unlike the Lambo/Fezza they don't shout hey look at me I'm a Lambo/Fezza.

If that makes any sense?

I suspect the V10 version makes up for the lack of performance, but it hinders the handling, so the V8 is the better drivers car. In all fairness the R8 is a very capable road car that can be used everyday, just like a Porsche 911. Difference is a Porsche 911 is without a doubt a true drivers car and I'd imagine feel that bit more of an occaison to drive but are a lot more understated than say an R8 and don't fit the supercar class like the R8 does, even though most 911's are quicker including the C2S/C4S.

If you think the R8 has a lack of grunt, speak to VF Engineering

Gibbo, why do you say the V10 hinders handling?

An interesting review of the V10 here - http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Drives/Search-Results/First-drives/Audi-R8-V10-Spyder-2010-CAR-review/

on that subject

this is worth a read

But despite the Jag’s strong showing, the R8 Spyder is a convincing winner. There aren’t any quirks or traits to forgive, no dynamic flaws to gloss over. Everything about it feels spot-on and it looks and sounds sensational. Right now it’s the best open-air sports car money can buy.

Not sure where Gibbo has read the R8 V10 has compromised handling.

Could swear I read reviews stating as such and would make sense as its a heavier car and weight hinders handling. The V10 is 60kg heavier than the V8 version making it 1620kg compared to the V8's 1560kg.

Though just reading EVO and they say due to new damper settings the V10 handles just as well if not sharper and its certainly a much faster car in straight lines compared to the V8 version, for me EVO pretty much get their car reviews spot on. :)

Thats an awsome video to watch of the R8, looks like a lot of fun and it looks stunning and sounds amazing. The 911 is just stupidly fast with that new PDK transmission, I mean 7.1s too 100mph is mental. That R35 GTR, well without a doubt there is nothing faster A-B for the road. :)

You should just go into Audi and tell them you want an epic deal on an R8 Spyder and RS5. But if you don't need back seats and just something 4WD thats planted get the R8, it looks amazing, sounds epic and is a very quick A-B car in all weather conditions.

The Coupé looks so much better.

For once I think the R8 Spyder is easily as a good looking as the Coupe, the R8 is without a doubt one of the sexiest cars on the road but does it in a not in your face way which I quite like. :)

Reading more and more about the V10 version Spie should definetely purchase one for sure, it so sure footed and performs very well it will probably be quicker than his 599 on anything but the hottest/dryest days. :)

The R8 looks stunning as either a Spyder or coupe. It is technically a lambo but I prefer the look of the R8 its more grown up if that makes sense.

Saw 2 white R8 spyders on my travels this weekend. They're astonishingly good looking cars. I prefer them to the hard top hands down. I would love a 911 convertible, and always have done, but if I had the full asking price for a new one, the decision between the R8 and 911 would be very tough (and might go the way of the R8).

They inspire absolutely nothing in me. Probably my least liked current "supercar" under the 458.
