Hello everyone, I am looking for a new monitor to go with my new sandybridge system that I will hopefully be building next month.

At the moment I'm still using a 19" CRT (18" viewable) monitor. So I am new to TFT monitors.

I have been looking at monitors for a few weeks now and still confused what to go for. I've read reviews and posted in other threads on here so apologies if I'm repeating anything.

I would like a screen size around 23" or 24". I would like a DVI connector and a HDMI connector would be nice (but not essential). Ideally a height adjustable stand would be nice.

My uses are going to be varied. Main use will be office work and internet. I also will do some basic photo editing and be playing games.

TN v IPS?

TN - good response times, poor viewing angles

IPS - good colour reproduction, good viewing angles, poor response times compared to TN

I have a budget of around £200 for my new monitor.

I have looked at the following:

Samsung P2450H
Samsung XL2370
Viewsonic VP2365wb
Dell U2311H

What do you recommend? What others should I consider?

Thanks
Mike

I have a P2450H and its a brilliant screen. Great colour and depths, tackles 1920x1080 v. nicely and the response time is nice.

It looks top class also, and it comes with software for changing its setting via a gui - like picture and colour, and it's magic bright feature that has pretty good presents for films, games and internet .ect

I'm in the same situation. A few months ago I remember seeing the Bx2450 for about £195... yet I can't find it at this price anywhere anymore!

I can recommend the samsung bx2450 led very nice 24" i got for £205 from the river site, good for films and gaming from what I've seen so far - delivered from germany so came with a poxy 2 pin plug grr. Has to rewire it to a UK 3 pin.

any normal uk kettle lead will do, and doesn't sound like a good deal if you got sent a foreign model

Unfortunately it costs £230+ in the UK at the moment making it just a little bit above the magic £200 mark. It is a very fine monitor though with a lovely stand - was understandably popular when it was under £200.

Still a pretty good deal - the monitor is exactly the same as you'd buy from a shop here for £250ish.
Unfortunately, the power cord wasn't a kettle lead fitting - it's the one with one round hole like a laptop plug - but without the AC adapter.

the Dell u2311h can be gotten for £197.1
rather unlikely to find much better than that new for the price

That's a good price, where from may I ask?

I have seen it for £213.90 inc VAT & Delivery.

I am really tempted by the Dell and it does seem to be ok for games after reading reviews on the forums.

We can't discuss competitors here however if you send me an e-mail I believe I know where it can be found cheaper.

An IPS panel under £200 is fantastic.

I got a Samsung P2450H few weeks ago and i must say im very pleased with it, Looks stunning, Really nice for gaming, Only small downside i would say is that you cannot tilt it that much. But overall id say go for that :P

Samsung P2450H

I was surprised actually just how good this TFT is. This is coming from someone who has had pretty much all the dell ultrasharps 22" and 24" from the 2005 right up to last years models. I've also owned 120hz samsung and the two benq 24"s (TN LED and VA LED). I'd say the P2450H is definately the best value for money.

Thanks for all the votes for the P2450H.

My concerns for this TFT apart from it being a TN panel are the glossy finish (fingers marks showing and scratches), also seen that it causes 'dust problems' as in on the stand and desk. Also read about about 'screen reflection' on the bezel. But otherwise it does seem to be a great TFT.

I am probably going to go with the Dell U2311H. It offers more and is available on offer at the mo.

Shall decide today!
