Would you upgrade from a BFG GTX 280 OC to a 480 if you were me?

I haven't really been thinking about upgrading but since seeing the deal on the 480 i am very tempted to say the least. The only thing holding me back is how much of a difference i will notice and spending the money, not that i can't afford it, there are just a lot of things i want to buy :D

Current spec is:
BFG GTX 480 OC
Q6600
Biostar TPower I45
2 x 2GB Corsair XMS2
Corsair 650W
Asus 1920x1080 monitor

Would there be any risk of bottlenecking?

Reasons for:
Current graphics card is BFG so no warranty which is worrying if it breaks, at least if i upgrade now whilst it is working i can sell it and get some money for it.
The 280 does seem to struggle at times. I do notice that it struggles from time to time and i do fancy getting the new Crysis.
I am also doing a few other upgrades; SSD, maybe more RAM, another monitor and OC'ing my Q6600.

Reasons against:
Spending money as there are are a few other things i want to buy.
I hadn't actually thought about upgrading until seeing the 480 deal.
The 480 'is' loud and warm.

After reading this, i think i may have just answered my own question aha :D
Anyway, i would still be interested in hearing other peoples opinions.

*edit* Forgot to mention what games i play; CoD, MoH, Dead Space 2, Fallout 3 + New Vegas and so on. I like to play with as higher settings as possible, would it be worth me upgrading with what games i play?
Thanks in advance,

Flare.

It is very subjective - many arguments for and against. I am making the same move as you so I can jump a performance class into the high-end (future-proofing etc.).

It was like this when i get my 280, i paid £250 for it a few years ago which was way under the price of everywhere else but it has 'future-proofed' my PC for a good few years now.

IMO you should get everything else first and see what you have left over and use that for a graphics card.

Now that bfg have gone bust maybe you could get a cheap 280 for sli

Good idea but the offer on the 480 runs out in a few days and my mobo isn't sli ready :(

I've not OC'd my Q6600 yet.
I'm just wondering, do i need a 480 or could i be just as happy with a cheaper card and not notice the difference.

I thikn i might just go for it, i'm £180 up this week because i've managed to work a few days with not having uni.

Bobmunkhouse, i think you should go for it because it's such a good price so even if you do decide the card isnmt right for you, you will be able to sell it and most likely get more than £195 for it. That's my thinking anyway.

Get the GTX480. If you can stand your GTX280, then I don't see how you wouldn't be able stand the GTX480's noise level as it's almost identical to GTX280's.

Also, overclock your Q6600! Shame on you using it on stock speed with the Biostar TPower I45 board :D

ive gone from a bfg 280oc2 to a evga 560ti card will be here on tuesday, and i plan on using the setup program from evga to up it to a 580gtx or if theres anything else out by then

I think i'm going to order it tonight :D

I know i know! I have no idea why i have never got a cooler for it. I think tonight i will order myself a 480 and a Fenrir :D

So are you saying go for it as well?.....

I think we're both getting a 480 :P
Buy one if i buy one? :D

Yeah, I got my 280 in the same deal as you. Unfortunately BFG bit the dust in the interim, which is the main thing that swayed me to make the upgrade. 2 280s in SLI were beautiful for the short time it lasted :/

lol hmmmmm well my girlfriend has given me the go ahead.....I have a Corsair 520 watt psu will this be ok? Also is it any longer the 280GTX?

Whipped :p
Anywho, They are both 10.5 inches long. Not sure about your PSU to be honest, have a look on the Corsair website, they use to have a thing where you could select your PSU and components and it would tell you if your PSU was good enough.

I got mine off an ebay shop, did you? Ohhh, 280 SLI was the stuff of dreams :P
I want to upgrade before my BFG 280 dies, not that i think it will but it's a damn good excuse :D
