I'm going car shopping soon with my brother.
He has a budget of around £5500.

We're still not 100% sure but we think we'll be looking for a Focus.
It's just him and his girlfriend, occasionally needing to drive 4 people.
Not too large, hatchback, relatively cheap to run.

On doing a little searching I can see his budget should streth to something around 05 or 55 Titanium trim level.
I see there is both a 1.6 and a 2.0 engine with Titanium trim.
Are both of these engines OK?
Or is the 1.6 a little lacking and I should really be looking at the 2.0?

The car is bigger and heavier than the old one, so I would personally say go for the 2.0.

1.6 is fine (even with 4 in it)
Much better on fuel than the 2.0

but if you want power get the 2.0

bet the advert, Focus is a cat c

I've driven my Mk1 Focus 1.6 with 4 people and a boot full of luggage and it's absolutely fine. It's a bit sluggish pulling away from lights when loaded this much, but after that it's absolutely fine.

the mk2 is about 300kg heavier isnt it? thats gonna make a difference over the mk1 1.6 ;)

Have you considered the 1.8 aswell? Seems like a good middle ground between economy and performance.

Wasn't the 1.8 generally considered to have the performance of the 1.6 and the economy of the 2.0? i.e. the worst of both worlds rather than the best.

I've been unable to find a review of the Mk 3 2.0 petrol Focus. Came out in 2008? Can anyone point me in the right direction? A review with the double clutch automatic would be even better.

You sure you don't mean the facelift mk2?
Mk3 isn't even out yet is it?
