I may be way off on this but until yesterday I had no idea the Blaze Mega Drive Ulimate had even been launched, some of you may remember a couple of years back Blaze launched their hand held Mega Drive which was a fairly decent hand held build quality wise and had 20 games built in.

Well enter the frigging BMDU! this version packs six buttons for the later MD games and has a rechargeable power pack, oh and it has an SD card slot which can be used to play games, the are units on the bay right now with over 700 games included :|

Lets see £40 for a hand held with over 1000 quality games already out there some of which are still considered to be among the best ever of their genre, or £200 for a 3D gimmick variant of the DS which will give me a migraine, let me think about it ^^

What does the 3DS have to do with this?

Well I was trying to say £40 for this system with its incredible library and rom support seems like the bargain of the century when you consider the competition is 5x the price with no games and they will cost almost as much as the Blaze system itself.

Nice, though I use Fusion + Xpadder to play MD games when the fancy takes me. Haven't found one that won't play on my netbook even. There is a Mega Drive console system with wireless pads out there, though the name of it escapes me

I'm not sure if this handheld is out to compete with Nintendo's offering tbh, considering there is a whole category dedicated to the 3DS on Blaze's website.

Can it only power 16-bit games?

Yeah just MD games afaik, Yeah I know their not gearing it up as a 3DS/NGP killer but any product is automatically competing with other products of the same type for market share. Sony/MS don't acknowledge the Wii as their competition just as something different but it doesn't change the fact that its shifted almost as many units as PS3/360 combined.

Going into the 16bit war nobody expected that the mega drive was going to defeat the SNES in sales, im not trying to say that this Blaze thing is as good tech/feature wise as the 3DS/NGP because that would be mad but it is certainly better "bang for the buck" and in this time of economic recession if Blaze/Sega put together a marketing campaign for it good enough than it would be fully capable of giving Sony/Nintendo one hell of a bloody nose.

Looks good, I've got one of the older ones with the built in games, but if we can load up an SD card full of roms and play them on this I'm sold.

*edit* After a quick look, turns out Asda sell them for £29.91 with free delivery! just bought one.

I have one. I got it for Christmas. I'm loving Desert Strike at the minute.

The only problems with it, are the sound emulation could be much better, and viewing angles on the LCD aren't the greatest. It was still worth the money.

It sounds alright if you don't already have a DS or similar, but with most handhelds (including the DS, although the screen resolution is limiting) these days you can find a pretty competent megadrive emulator which will do more or less the same job. I have to wonder what the battery life is like, though, as those third party hand held things don't usually have a great reputation in that department. That said I've played a lot of what the mega drive had to offer to death already.

I asked about this ages ago.

I wanted to know what the screen was like?

Does it play every single mega drive game to date?

How much are they paying you for your desperate anti-Nintendo shilling then?

Did you not read what I wrote? or did you just feel like insulting somebody? I never said Nintendo suck or that I hate my DS just that this is way better value for money which is very true, I costs 1/5th the price and has over 1000 quality games available for free, thats awesome in my book.

From the youtube reviews ive seen the screen are good and its fully compatible with most games however im unsure about the games like virtua racing which had an additional 3d accelerator in the actual cart.

A place called the internet :P Unlike many companies Sega's approach to roms seems to be basically "who cares, were not losing any money if people pirate games that went out of production 15 years ago"
