Morning folks,

I managed to save £300 to basically do what ever i want with and i'm not sure what i should upgrade.

Current specs are -

ATI 4870x2
AMD Phenom II 955 BE
MSI 790GX-G65 AMD 790GX
Corsair XMS3 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9
500GB Western Digital Caviar Black

Now, i don't want to have to spend £300 if i don't need to, but i would like to spend a little money on the PC as well, i haven't done anything to it in a while.

I'm tempted to get a 1TB HDD as the 500GB is running out of space due to the Steam sales last Christmas, and i'm also thinking about upgrading to 8GB RAM. That comes to £80 which isn't too bad.

Is the 4870x2 still holiding it's own, or is there something else out there that isn't as loud and hot as this thing?

Thanks.

Hi there,

I would suggest going for this HDD and an SSD like this.

If you are mainly just gaming then I would not suggest upgrading the RAM to 8GB yet - games just don't make use of it.

Have you overclocked the CPU and do you have a custom cooler? If not then I would go for this cooler and have a good go at overclocking.

As for how to spend the rest of your money - do you think you would make use of a Blu-ray drive or new speakers/headphones + sound card?

Thought about picking up another HD4870x2 in the MM and Xfiring them?

I'd definitely add a 1TB HDD if you are running out, they're so cheap, so why not.

8GB is a bit overboard unless you do a lot of photo/video editing in huge amounts.

I've never overclocked, too scared to fry everything :D

I got a new sound card a while ago from the MM so don't need to touch that (forgot to put in specs!) and i've got some Creative Fatal1ty headsets, so could changed those.

Already got a PS3 for the Blu-Rays, so don't need one of them. The Samsung F3 does look good and for that price it does seem like a bargain.

HD4870X2 is very hot, and quite dated.

£200 will get you a HD6950, which you can flash to a Hd6970 - quiet, low wattage use, and very fast!

Then you can get the HDD as well, and voila!
