Just got a Samsung Galaxy S and need some help :(

first off i really like the phone but the icons are awful they are the default orange icons which reminds me to much off my dreadfull LG arena i was wondering how i change them ??

and also i keep downloading background for the phone in its native res of 480x800 but when i try and apply them it alwasy goes to crop the picture why is this ??

i have uploaded the latest firmware through kies btw

and how do i do the lag fixer ??

I would leave any 'lag fixes' well alone tbh. Always getting posts on XDA that it's messed up somebodies device.

Wallpapers are 960x800 (iirc) because home screen launchers pan across multiple pages as you swipe left or right.

Customizing icons etc will require root privileges. Have a look around the XDA Forums.

i've been trying i've got tha z4root for the 2.2v as i updated it when i got it andi've managed to the the one click lag fix but it say's my phone is un-rooted even though i have applyed the z4root thing ?

the z4root thing crashes now and then when iam installing it then goes dead slow till i reboot it this isnt going to damage my phone is it ?

Before you mess about with the phone makesure the 3 button modes work!!. If they don't work there is a very real chance of you bricking your phone.
