One Hundred Push Ups

I used to be able to do ~100 push ups and several hundred sit-ups/crunches, but that was about 10 years ago. I've since discovered sitting around and chilling out with beer, and can muster about 12. :/

Crikey I feel terrible about letting myself go a bit.

Same here, after reading the first few posts I thought christ 12 is nothing - thinking back to when I was active about 6 years ago

Just tried now and stopped on 10 (after reading the website) by that point I couldn't really go any higher.

Pretty shocking.

I would say anything that encourages you to push yourself too hard is a bad idea. 100 is an arbitrary number, what's more important is doing the most you can do.

Wow, that's how you stop progression. Dont push people, just do what you can do and don't try to do any more.

I am going to try this too.

I just attempted the initial test... managed 6 before my shoulder started to hurt badly. think i need to stretch and read up on proper form..

I shall post how i get on.

Holy crap, I've let myself go. Only 11. I am ill, but even so.

When I get the results from the echocardiograph and abdominal ultrasound scan, I really should get more exercise.

A push up is only a push up if you keep your body straight and chest is lowered 1-2 inches from the ground. I've seen so many people brag about how many they can do then when they do them, they bounce up and down.

The most strict push ups I've ever managed was 50. That was tough as hell. Screw trying 100.

If you want to get good at push ups, do flat bb bench presses... it also helps having a light bodyweight.

30 good push ups beats 100 sloppy push ups any day of the week.

This test is fairly pointless as it targets only one range of movement and focuses on one long set, which is essentially pointless to a degree, beyond just a sense of achievement.

A much better way to work out your whole body is to do 100 burpees a day. Proper ones. Anyone who does this for 3 weeks will see insane results.

I remember watching a video of an inmate doing 100 burpees. I god damn hate them.

Try doing them with rubber bands. :/

this isnt about fitness, or even an overall statement of strength or stamina.

It is what it is, 100 pressups. good for nothing other than 100 pressups. Better to accept that than try to tell people to do something else ;)

I find it quite amazing how many pushups people can do without having trained them for a long time. Are you actually doing a proper nice and controlled full up and down till your nose touches the floor. Are these numbers in one sitting with no resting between pushups?

From what I have seen in gyms and generally, when it comes to pushups, pullups and chinups, 80% of people do them half arsed.

A lot of it comes down to weight generally. Most of the skinny runts on this forum weigh next to nothing, so 65-70% of nothing is even less. They should be able to do lots of reps :P

I still find it almost impossible to believe. Ask most people to do a pushup and they go up and down about 8" total. The bigger you are, the harder it is, I understand that. But I am still rather dubious that people professing to have done little training for them, can bash out any more than 30 proper ones.

Depends on general activity of that person though. Some people are just completely weak, others are bloody strong considering they have never been to a gym before.
