Hi all, narrowed it down to LCD tech and now Samsung for a TV connected to my PC for video content:)

I can now get the C580 for £480 inc delivery inc 5 year warranty which is stonking to be fair.

Or I can get the C650 with 100hz technology for £515

C650 is glossy and C580 matte but not too bothered I think.

Now I realise the 100hz is frame interpolation and can cause loads of potential artifact problems.

In the shop 100hz looked far smoother to my eyes which I would say are 'fast', seeing the rainbow effect etc. It did not seem to degrade image quality and cause the 'soap opera' /waxy looking people effect.

Any thoughts on what I should be buying?

My current instinct is the C650 and turn off motionplus/100hz if it turns out to be a pain in the ass.

But then I would have missed the great deal on the C580.

Thoughts?:)

no warranty on the c650 no as its from a big jungle...

yeh i was wondering if the c580 had smoothing turned off and the c650 smoothing on max to make the more expesnive set look lots better...

just dont wanna hang around and miss £515 for a six series

but dont wanna spend extra for a feature that will just end up being turned off due to image quality issues

I'm 95% certain I shall be ordering the LE40C650 this week from Amazon. I was going to get an LED but the 650 is too tempting for the price.

led is worse for panel uniformity and backlight bleed! it is still maturing, if you dont need to wall mount ccfl is better from reading around as it has matured. the tvs are still thin dont forget!

I have a B650, and the C650 is v. similar, the picture quality is amongst the best you can get from a backlit CCFL LCD as long as you calibrate it correctly (see HDTVTest.co.uk's settings). At night I use bias lighting behind the TV and dim the backlight a bit and it looks great, although obviously if you use regular lighting you see the shortcomings of having a backlight. Cant' complain for the price though, and if I upgraded it would only be to either a larger plasma or OLED once they finally make it to homes at affordable prices.

thanks for that. so is there backlight bleed or just when its pitch black the blacka dont look as goos?

can you explain bias lighting not heard of it but get the concept, it serves as a reference point and forces extra perceived contrast?

is your set 100hz too?
