Acer 27" 3D monitor with hdmi 1.4

Why the anti-glare coating.

Personally it restricts the lcd especially with a 27" size - or am I talking garbage.

PCM, you review the latest lcd's, is there a BIG difference with the latest anti-glare and glossy screen in colour and clarity or has the anti-glare coating 'improved' ?

I suppose to some extent this is just one of many factors. I have found with recent monitors I've reviewed that matte anti-glare coatings do have a measureable effect on contrast and clarity. I don't think they have improved really and I have seen a drive towards 'semi gloss' coatings for entertainment monitors in particular. The new Samsungs and various BenQ models, for example, have this kind of coat. I think it's a nice compromise myself and I imagine this type of coating will feature quite heavily in future OLED monitors. There seems to be no escaping the 'grainy' effect on matte screen, that's for sure.

Bummer :(

Are the glossy screens that much dearer than the anti-glare.

So in essence - the manufacturer is not providing the end user with better quality by not using the glossy coating - unless cost wise it makes sense to use the anti-glare.

I don't think it's so much a cost issue as a usability issue. With enough light (natural or artificial) falling on a glossy screen you do suffer from 'glare'. It is possible in a home environment to moderate this by, for example, closing the curtains a bit or turning on some nice mood lighting at night. ;) In most office environments this simply isn't possible - which is why many 'professional' monitors go for particularly heavy matte anti-glare coatings (unless they are made by a vain manufacturer such as Apple). And these are certainly not cheap screens.

I think there is considerable and possibly even growing demand for entertainment monitors with a bit less of the old dulling matte coating. Even the 'average home user', if there is such a beast, is starting to notice the difference between their home monitor and that glossy Apple display they saw in No competitors! (and not just due to the IPS technology). I am quite an outspoken fan of a moderated approach such as the 'semi glossy' coatings on some of the new BenQs and the upcoming Samsung 3D monitors. I think it's also found on some ASUS models although I haven't tested many recently to confirm. It's certainly something I think will become more widespread as manufacturers are keen to showcase new technologies such as OLED to the fullest potential.

I cant find anything relating to a release date or price as of yet:(

Just waiting for the guy in the video to finish testing it myself.

Considering that's not far off the current cost of a 60Hz 27 inch TN panel monitor I wouldn't hold your breath. By that time it will have been superseded and you probably won't even want it any more.

Which means lots of ghosting in 3d then?

EDIT - Not bad, better then my Samsung 3dtv at least!

16ms is quite low, but preferably it's better not to have any lag. The lg W2363D thas reported to have 0 input lag with it's 'thru mode'

He has said that the monitor will be available at the end of this month priced at 689 euros - £587.
