Guys,

My 306 is destined for death - I have abused it far far too much, and someone has kindly offered me a 2000 Corsa 1.2 with 70k miles for £500, which I'm sure I can negotiate a bit off too. Not entirely sure of all the details quite yet, should be having a good look around it tomorrow though.

So anyway, how bad can a Corsa really be? :D Any ideas on mpg around town (yes it matters as that's where I do all my mileage!) a quick google search gave various different results, and I trust you guys more :)

Thanks

For the same reason I currently drive a 306 DTurbo. I'm a field engineer, and don't wish to wreck the Subaru.

You want to spend your working day driving around in a £500 Corsa?!

Dude, seriously, buy another 306 if you must.

No engineer should be driving around in a student banger. Do you design fields for agriculture or something?

If I'm totally honest it doesn't bother me what I drive during work, and for £500 I believe it's worth a look. Plus it can't be any more uncomfortable than our work van that I occasionally have the privelage of driving round!

I do that's sarcasm about the field lol ! But just in case it isn't.. field engineer, as in I work in the field of our sites? It does actually sound silly said like that.. I'm an ICT dude for the PCT..

In an ideal world yes I will get another 306, as mine has been fantastic for 2 year period I've had it. But when a friend offers a car to you, it's worth a second thought as it's cheap.

My wife had a corsa SXi for a while and I could not drive it. The seats gave me really bad back ache other than that it was reliable and cheap to run. On a plus note it will make your Subaru feel like a Rocket when you get in after driving the corsa for a day. I had a 306 D turbo I traded in and kept as a daily runner and it was far supperior in every way to a corsa.

i had a 2000 1.2 corsa for about 2 years +, great wee car, needed some tlc every now and then, but for £500 you can't really go wrong (i got £800 back from the insurance company after someone wrote it off, had 85k on it)
tbh it was a thing that i drove because it was cheap as chips to run but i don't do any town miles so not sure how it does with all the stop/starting - not the best driving car ever, but definitely not the worst!

field engineer shoud clealry require a 4wd car. If you mean "field" as in farm :p

EDIT: Ahh, IT, so not a real Engineer then?

/RUNS!

I had a corsa for years, I didn't find it uncomfortable at all, actually felt more spacious than my mondeo that replaced it. Fuel use was ok in town but not great and quite high on motorways. I don't think its that unsafe, thought its safety rating was 4.

If it was ever fully loaded, 5 people and bags it felt much worse, bad acceleration lots of extra stopping distance and tedious hill climbs.

Good, that's better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick then eh. The Corsa however ...err I think I'd take the poke in the eye myself.

Good idea, but it is too late, you can buy some of those old Saabs for incredibly low prices now, provided they work properly they offer a huge amount of car for the money.

Well I don't think I've gone bad with this. If it lasts me 2 years like my old one then I will be very happy. Put the old one on ebay too, see if it manages to raise any cash!
