:| Great.

@Dave_beast

But then what about the HDD's, GPU, Case etc which ive Brought. As well as selling my old PC...

I've got 2 x Asus P8P67 Deluxes & 2 x Intel Core i7-2600K arriving tomorrow!

I'm expecting i7-2600K + Asus P8P67 DELUXE based-build this week. Its been on order since 17th Jan. (build log in sig). I am keeping this in perspective and will use the 4 available Sata 6Gbps ports, of which 3 will be used. Its not like there isn't an alternative or the end of the world.

I'm spending a lot on this build, I will just follow procedure if anything needs replacing. I always buy in confidence with Ocuk and ain't going to be as worried as some posting here.

...i have now heard enough inane drivvle.

WTF is the point in posting an intel powerpoint slide on architecture?! and worrying about "everything" being affected?!

These guys have billions of dollars available to find out what caused the problem, they do so, announce it - and some bright spark questions it with a marketing slide questioning everything they just stated. brilliant.

Again - if this was down to me i'd CLOSE this thread because its full of the most utterly useless posts i've seen in a long time.

forget it for now. let intel and OCuk decide what to do about it then listen to the response - which will be both informed and correct, unlike ridiculous speculation. job done. Everyone else = less annoyed by such utter ****.

Then don't read the thread?

Its a good thing its not down to you, it doesn't matter if everything said in this thread is wrong, its a forum and therefore discussion is meant to occur.

Im all for informed discussion, valid questions etc, but pls dont post a marketing slide that has little to nothing to do with the actual chip, or post rubbish about how glad you are you didnt upgrade, or you're recently mechanically failed HDD - its complete nonsense and nothing to do with what the thread is supposed to about - a faulty chipset.

Incidentally not what the thread is titled though - absolutely nothing wrong with sandybridge actually - but the chipset.

Go ahead and discuss, but pls for the love of god keep it on topic.

oh, and btw that is exactly why i read the thread - hoping for healthy discussion - hence the frustration when i read 9 pages+ of nonsense with only a handful of reasonable posts. And now i've got sucked into it too.... I shall stop.

the article says ports 2-5 are affected but the p8p67 has 8 ports.how does this work? i count ports 0,1,2,3,4,5 6 intel ports so what about the other two are these the marvel 6gb ports that are unaffected too?

they say using ports 0 and 1 will be fine as that is sata 6gb but is it marvell or intel? im confused as hell the white ports are 0+1 right?

It's a lot of hassle swapping the motherboard, basically means stripping the whole machine down and starting from scratch

Not if your changing from one motherboard to the same motherboard. Even if its a different motherboard all you need to do is make sure you have switched the HDD drivers to the microsoft ones.

Only 1 retailer has pulled sales

And that speaks volumes about their customer care policy, it's a shame others haven't followed suit already but I'm guessing we'll see more retailers pulling the items tomorrow after they have a contingency plan in place.

They probably have never had any stock to sell anyway :p

You know nobody is forcing you to read this thread - so bye bye.;)

Is it wierd I can't be bothered opening my case and swapping ports? I would rather use a dodgy Intel port than that tripe from Marvell.

just stumbled across this, and from what I've read........
- intel think around 5% of systems could see issues, within 3 years.
- in the (now likely) event of a recall, the MoBo partners will be obliged to replace faulty parts at their cost, which will be reimbursed to them by intel.
- in the event of the motherboard totally failing (wrt this issue), then it will only cause the board to be unable to see the drives, data should be safe.

tbh I'll chance it for a few weeks, then swap out my motherboard when the procedure for doing so is finalised. System feels all good for now, and I don't really have any data I can't afford to lose. might burn my docs to a dvd but thats about it. If I did have important data, then using the unaffected ports is plenty good enough for me.

the fact that Intel are issuing a recall now is proof only that there are so few affected boards in use so far, that it makes every bit of sense to stump up now rather than wait for the issues, and boards to become more widespread.

Good work intel, this, if anything, has increased my confidence in you!

The ports are gray, not white. The manual states on the Asus P8P67 Deluxe, Sata ports are as follows:

Ports 0+1 are the Intel 6Gbps (gray), 2-5 is the Intel Sata 3Gbps (blue), and the rest are the Marvel controllers 6+7, and the final one is the JMicron Sata controller for eSata 3Gbps on the Deluxe model, located near the rear panel.

This image I quickly put together should help explain.

asusp8p67.gif

1) Marvell PCIe controller features x2 Sata 6Gbps ports (navy blue)
~Supports data drives only. On mobo its SATA6G_E1/E2
2) Intel's chipset: x2 Sata 6Gbps ports (gray)
On mobo its SATA6G_1/2
3+4) Intel's chipset: x4 Sata 3Gbps ports (blue).
On mobo its SATA3G_3/4/5/6.

2. As a consumer you have the right to a refund inc the cost of returning to the retailer as the product is not fit for purpose

Why would you do that? There is nothing comparable to SB to replace it with and the fault is very minor in nature, doesnt manifest itself for some time and is easily worked around until Intel have sorted the recall.

Why is everyone crying so much?

Well looks like ocuks rivals have stopped shipping out boards.

To both.

I'll think you will find it is there lack of CPUs which has made them "pull" the boards from sale.

If you have no CPUs, no one will buy the boards. So might aswell pull them and get extra brownie points for "doing the right thing".

I purchased 2 SB setups and so far very happy with them and will wait to see what the outcome is with regards to a recall.
I'm not going to jump up and down or do the crazy war dance just yet but will continue to enjoy the new spec machines until I know more.
At least Intel have come out with it unlike a well known TV manufacturer who's plasma's had the degrade in black levels. I also got caught by that too sadly.
