Gillette really do make the bloody best razors

only if you're a plank and dont use a hot towel, or dont do it after a shower. after a shower, my mekur futur glides through my stubble, far easier and quicker than my old mach 3 did. and putting the soap on with a brush is only marginally slower than using cream. Really, there isnt enough in it to care.

anyway, if youre that worried about saving minuted per shave then maybe a real razor isnt for you anyway. personally i prefer better, cheaper shaves :)

I use a Merkur (based on suggestions off the forum) and find it better in every way.

Cost.. £9 for 3 GilletteOMGWTFBBQRAZOR or £8 for 100 safety blades.

Yes, the cost up front for the soap, brush and razor are greater but it gives me a better shave and I find I have more confidence with the razor as it won't cut me to pieces. I would add it's slower at first, but then once you get used to it you can fly through.

I tend to shave once a week because I'm lazy and my employer only really comments if I'm doing Movember :D

Haven't really red most of this thread however I do notice people going on about how this or that pack of "popular said brand" razers cost a bomb.

I don't think I've ever bought a pack of blades, everytime I've needed them it was far cheaper to buy a new razor since they tend to be on offer throughout the year and come with enough blades that just made the average packs a waste of money.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but can someone breifly explain the benefit of a Merkur shaver? From a quick glimpse it looks shiny and bigger to hold yes, but why is it better? Why does it cost you less in the long run? Can you sharpen the blades or do the blades cost much less? Why are they called cut throat blades? Do they not have a safety bar accross it?

Also what is all this talk of getting a decent brush? WTF? A brush? My method has always been, use hands to put cream on (I can't see how a brush would make a difference?) then shave with razor. Then rince.
