Dear Overclockers - A question from a worried Danish guy

Hello everyone!

Two days ago I ordered the parts for a new PC from overclockers.co.uk. The reason being that it's actually cheaper for me to order from the UK than from a shop in Denmark.

My question is this: With the power plugs (I hope that's what they're called) being different in England, could this potentially cause any problems for me? I don't want to fry my shiny new computer as soon as I plug it in.

Some information about the danish power plugs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_power_plugs_and_sockets#Type_K_.28Danish_standard.29

Some possible solutions I have come up with if it's a problem:

1. Changing the cable from the PSU to one which fits danish power plugs (dangerous?)
2. Getting some kind of thing to put between the power cable and plug.

There is a switch on the back of the psu to change voltage, or some PSU'S do it automatically, just use the correct kettle/power lead for your wall socket outlet.

yeh nothing to worry about really, just use a different kettle lead thats made in your country. naturally checking the fuse is ok of course.

at the end of the day all these items come from the same factory, they just end up with different leads in the box by the end of it and even then some companies just chuck all the leads in!

You should be alright.

Denmark has 220V power? It's only really US stuff you need to worry about as that's 110V.

So long as you've got a live, a neutral and an earth I'm pretty certain you'll be ok.

I guess that settles it. I have some cables lying around that will work just fine.

Thanks you very much for your swift answers, they're greatly appreciated!

Check on the back of the PSU as it should say - most these days will automatically adjust from 110-250v but a few have a switch still. Double check tho that it is one of those 2 as there are still a very few PSUs that only work at ~240v@50Hz.

EDIT: Tho as your running 230v @ 50Hz thats not a problem.

Everything I have taken to the US, Barbados, Iceland or Germany has all worked fine with just simply using an adapter plug (just to make it fit). Most things work fine on both now :)
the stuff I've used include:
Laptops
Phones
Hair straighteners (these take twice as long to heat up in the US)
Hair dryer
External Hard Drives
Digi Cameras
