Just for future reference, what is the rule.

I know that those subjects aren't prohibited per se. Yet sometimes threads are closed. Perhaps a mod could clarify :)

Well if the thread actually had any valid argument it would help, but a thread denigrating someone only because they married a Sikh is just daft.

Next time maybe you could actually have a valid argument regarding race or religion rather than just inane bigotry.

Who is to decide on what is valid - you? :)

Stick to writing comments on Daily Mail please. At the end of the day Britain will always have a some bigots like you who are ignorant and intolerable. I'm glad that those types of threads are closed (admittedly) it was only after several comments about mods having to step in despite them responding earlier in the thread. Why should Overclockers harbor such threads in the first place. It'll only continue to harm its reputation.

I thought these forums allowed free speech and weren't overly 'politically correct' :) Do you advocate free speech only when it agrees with you?

Well here's my take.

The thread was started with a link to an interracial marriage that you clearly disprove of. Was it started with good honest debate in mind or to light touchpaper and stand back ? In truth dd, I suspect the latter.

There were comments made that would be offensive to some and several RTMs were received.

No absolutely not. However, threads such as the one recently closed had no meaningful point that I could see. What exactly were the aims of the tread and what were its likely discussion points. It was only there to stir up tension and have the inevitable outcome of descending into a farce as a mod quite clearly pointed out.

To repeat the old line - free speech has never been entirely free, it's certainly not freedom from consequence.

You could argue against the thread highlighted under the general prohibition on trolling or simply that it was a "link and run" almost as there was very little in the way of content provided (albeit you did stick around to offer some input) - sometimes those type of threads work and sometimes they don't, here I'd have to say it didn't.

There is always a balance between free speech and preventing trolling and plainly offensive posts. Von, IMO rightly, decided that it went over the line.

Good honest debate. I realise it is a sensitive subject but all the more interesting to debate it then, surely.

Not me , that is for the moderation team to decide, but to be fair you made no argument other than that is was wrong. There was no validation of why it was wrong other than your personal opinion, and given your predilection for bigotry I am surprised that you thought it wouldn't be closed.

Next time, maybe you should frame some kind of argument to debate other than "OMG a Sikh marries a White Woman" or words to that effect.
